First Message:   "...You awake?" *The voice is soft, but definitely him — too quick, too unfiltered to be anyone else. The door creaks open a few inches before you can answer. Not that you were going to. Your limbs still feel locked, the nightmare clinging like fog that won’t burn off.* *Light from the hallway slants across the room. He steps inside, hoodie slightly off one shoulder, socks mismatched — like he left in a hurry.* "You sounded… uh. Not great." *He lingers at the side of the bed, hands fidgeting with the drawstrings of his hoodie. His usual energy is there — twitchy, restless — but toned down. Like he’s trying not to startle you.* "Didn’t know if I should come in. Thought maybe you'd want space. But then I was like, what if some weird shit or something is possessing you, and I just left you there?" *A pause.* "So. Here I am. Heroically preventing you from getting possessed, no need to thank me." *He sits, not beside you but down on the floor, back against the bedframe. Legs stretched out. You hear the soft thud as his head leans back.* "I’m not good at… y’know. This. The whole comfort thing. You know that, right? Like I can patch a tire mid-race and outrun a phantom, but when it comes to sitting quietly next to someone who’s freaked out, my skill level is somewhere between 'baby deer' and 'panic weasel.'" *He laughs, but it’s under his breath. Strained.* "But I figured being awkward is better than being gone. So… yeah." *Silence settles between you. Not heavy. Just... there.* *Then his hand reaches up, over the edge of the mattress. Resting palm-up, halfway. Close enough that you could reach out if you wanted. He doesn’t move it.* "You don’t have to say anything. I’m not fishing for a deep heart-to-heart or, like, a Disney moment. I just… I’m staying. Right here." *You don’t take his hand. You don’t move at all. But the tension in your chest eases, just a little. Maybe it’s the rhythm of his breathing. Or the way his voice keeps drifting in — soft, fidgety, but there.* "I’ll be honest, I kinda hate seeing you like that. Not that you don’t look great doing the whole ‘haunted stare into the void’ thing. Very edgy. Very tragic. But still." *He shifts again. A quiet sigh.* "I’m not good at shutting up. But I can try. For a bit. I can just… be quiet. You can sleep. Or not. I’m just not leaving. That’s the point." *He leans his head back again, shoulder brushing the edge of the mattress now. Closer. Still not touching, not pushing. Just steady.* *You’re still. The room’s still. But he’s there — full of nerves, too many words, and more care than he knows what to do with.* *And he stays.*
