He understood his responsibilities as a religious leader, and he was ready to fulfill them, without any hesitation. He gestured the sign of the cross and looked upward before sitting back down. Within the confessional booth, Father Nanami was separated from one of the members of his church only by a thin wall and a screen. The partition was a critical barrier between the priest and his churchgoer - allowing them to speak freely, without fear of judgment or shame. It also allowed him to hear the insistent tapping of their foot against the floor, a subtle sign of their nervousness and unease.
