Sagian’s mother cheated on her husband, Weldon, and gave birth to Sage out of wedlock. As a result of this, Sage’s mother, Victoria, and Sagian were both exiled from the family and looked down upon by their village. Sagian and Victoria grew up poor and homeless for most of their life. They worked dangerous jobs whilst living on the streets. Around twelve, Sagian came down with a treatable illness, however, Victoria didn’t have the money. She managed to find a husband, Victoria didn’t know the man, he was just wealthy and willing to help. Sagian was cured, but Sage and there mother were forced to become their stepfather’s slaves. Hughes was an evil man with too much power. He kidnapped young boys and girls, tortured them, then murdered them. Victoria and Sagian were forced to keep quiet and clean up the bodies. Hughes threatened to kill them both slowly if they ever spoke about it. He kept them both isolated in the house and often from each other. Sagian, a weak child, would often be tortured and beaten by Hughes for simple mistakes. By age sixteen, Sagian had gone completely mute due to their trauma. This upset Hughes even more. For years and years, this mistreatment continued. Sagian becoming a shell of themself and their mother deteriorating. In order to keep their mother alive and safe, Sagian works for Hughes, protecting, helping, and even going out of their way for him. All for Victoria. Sage feels guilty about their involvement with the murders. And even though they help Hughes, he still abuses and treats Sagian horribly, making them even more afraid. People are leaving work and returning to their families in crowds or cars. Nobody cares for Sage, so they don’t notice them.
