He's consistently portrayed as having thick, tawny coloured hair with thick black eyebrows in the comics, the movie and the anime. Throughout volumes 1-2, Scott is shown having shaggy hair (in the words of Ramona), the result of his fear of going to the barber due to a bad haircut which Scott claims was responsible for his breakup with Envy, often being told to cut it by Ramona and Knives. In Volume 3 onward, in which Ramona convinces him to let her cut his hair, he has a shorter hairstyle that appears less messy than his previous one. (Powers: Power of Understanding, Power of Love, Power of Self-respect, Censoring, Various video game-style fighting moves) **Ramona Flowers**: Ramona is a rather tall young woman with unknown hair color as she changes it often. She is noted to be very attractive by Scott, but also called a little fat by Knives and Roxie. One of Ramona's quirks is that she changes the color of her hair every three weeks. Because of this, she is seen sporting various hairstyles and hair colors throughout the series. (Powers: Power of Love, Subspace, The Glow, Fusion) **Wallace Wells**: Wallace is a young man of a little bit above average height (being slightly taller than Scott). He has short, slightly messy dark hair and narrow eyes. In contrast to his roommate's "slacker" look, Wallace normally appears wearing more formal clothes such as buttoned-up shirts and sweaters. Wallace wears a black coat with a scarf whenever he's outside in cold weather. (Powers: Psychic Chi) **Kim Pine**: Kim is a fair skinned young girl of average height with three freckles on each one of her cheeks, though in the earlier comics she has more. She has red hair, styled in a bob shoulder-length haircut. In Scott's flashback, however, we see that her hair was long and tied back into a ponytail during her high school years. Although much like the other characters, Kim changes her outfit frequently. She’s mostly seen sporting various kinds of tracksuit jackets and skirts with varying colours. In the game, she wears a black and white tracksuit with a skirt. **Stephen Stills**: Stephen Stills is a tall and slender young man with a somewhat scruffy appearance. He typically has messy, shoulder-length, dark blond hair. His facial features are angular, with expressive eyes that convey a range of emotions from determination to self-doubt. In terms of clothing, Stephen is often depicted wearing casual attire befitting his indie-rock musician persona. This includes graphic t-shirts, flannel shirts, and jeans, reflecting his relaxed and unpretentious style. **Knives Chau**: Knives Chau is a skinny, medium-height Chinese girl of 17 years of age. She has black hair, which she later cuts and dyes after her breakup with Scott. (Powers: Love breathing) **Young Neil**: Young Neil is depicted as a young man with a slim build and is often portrayed as slightly shorter than other characters in the series. His hair is typically messy and unkempt, falling in tousled strands around his face. **Stacey Pilgrim**: Stacey has the same long, straight, dark hair in the movie adaptation that she has in the comics. The version of Stacey in the movie also has the same minimalist fashion sense as her comic book counterpart, wearing a lot of plain t-shirts. Despite being the younger sibling, Stacey is much more mature and responsible than Scott, which Kendrick reflects in her spot-on portrayal of the character in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. (Powers: Censoring) **Julie Powers**: Julie wears the same bangs, glasses, earrings, and Second Cup uniform as her comic counterpart, although her glasses frames aren’t as cartoonishly big in the movie as they’re drawn in the comics. Plaza is known for playing morose, deadpan characters, which made her the ideal casting for Julie because Julie has an intense dislike for almost everyone around her – particularly Scott, who she considers to be a loser. (Powers: Censoring) **Envy Adams**: Envy’s appearance in the comics and the film adaptation is her hair color. Envy is a redhead in the comics, but plays her as a blonde in the movie. Despite the difference in color, both versions of Envy wear their hair in the same Asuka Langley Soryu-inspired style, and share the same giant hoop earrings. Larson perfectly embodies the character’s punk rock attitude with dry, deadpan humor and a snarky on-screen presence. (Powers: Censoring) **Matthew Patel (Ramona's 1st ex-boyfriend)**: Matthew is a young Indian man of average height who has black hair with an "emo" haircut that covers his left eye. His outfit consists of a khaki military jacket (black in the game) decorated with two chevrons on each shoulder over a red buttoned up shirt with black stripes and blue denim pants. According to Scott & Wallace, his outfit resembles that of a pirate and the chevrons on his shoulders led fans to speculate that he might be from the military. (Powers: Mystical: Levitation, Pyrokinesis, Demon Hipster Chicks, Six-Armed God Ganesha, Vehicle Mimicry) **Lucas Lee (Ramona's 2nd ex-boyfriend)**: Lucas wears the same tight black t-shirt and leather jacket. The character’s hair is a little neater and tidier in the movie than it is in the comics. Evans plays the character with the same macho bravado that defined his comic book counterpart and perfectly recreates the gruff grimace drawn on his face in the comics. **Todd Ingram (Ramona's 3rd ex-boyfriend)**: Todd is a tall fair skinned young man with a rather athletic build. He has a light blonde hair (orange in the game) with a hairstyle similar to that of the series' protagonist, Scott Pilgrim. Whenever Todd activates his powers, his hair goes up and his eyes glow. Todd normally appears wearing a simple set of t-shirts and denim pants as well as a pair of striped armbands. His most iconic look (which is his standard appearance in the game) is the one worn in his first appearance, in which he wears a black t-shirt with a stylized skull on it, resembling the Punisher's symbol. In his movie appearance, however, Todd wears a completely different shirt which is a white one with a print of the number 3 on it, as well as 3 stripes on each one of his shoulders, both referencing his Evil Ex number. Unlike in the comics, Todd's hair does not go up when he's using his powers in the movie, however, once he's hit by the Deveganizing Ray, his hair becomes shaggy and messy. (Psychic Vegan) **Roxanne Ritcher (Ramona's 4th ex-girlfriend)**: Roxie is a light-skinned girl of short height (apparently shorter than Ramona) who's described as being chubby by the rest of the cast. She sports a dyed blonde hair (her real hair color is unknown) tied in two buns. Her eyes have two black markings underneath them and she also has a tattoo of the Oni Press logo on her left shoulder, which wasn't shown in the movie. As for her outfits, Roxie consistently appears with two belts, each one with a sword sheath to carry her katanas as well as a studded bracelet in her left arm. In her first and encounter with Scott, Roxy sported a black sleeveless sweater, shorts and boots, with a single fishnet finger-less glove in her right arm. In her second encounter in The Happy Avocado, she now has a white sweater, with sleeves this time as well as a matching white short. She also wearing a pair of roller skates. In her final encounter, her appearance is similar to her first outfit, except now she wears a pair of shoes with white thighs instead of boots. That look also serves as the basis of her appearance in the game, but with an orange color scheme instead. Her appearance in the movie adaptation is also slightly different, while she still has her hairdo and eye markings, her outfit is changed, taking elements from both her first and last looks. She now wears a ripped black jacket that exposes her bra decorated with studs, as well as fishnet thighs and a pair of fuzzy boots. She also lacks her sword, which is replaced by an iron belt with razors that she uses as her primary weapon of choice in the movie. Her appearance in Scott Pilgrim Takes Off seems to be somewhat the same as in the comics. While she has her sleeveless sweater, shorts, boots, studded bracelet and fishnet fingerless glove, she also has a red mask with fangs on it. (Powers: Near ninja-like speed, teleportation, ninja magic) **Kyle and Ken Katayanagi/The Katayanagi Twins (Ramona's 5th & 6th ex-boyfriends)**: Kyle and Ken look almost exactly the same in the movie adaptation as they do in the comics. They have the exact same pointed hairstyles with contrasting colors (Kyle with bright platinum blond hair and Ken with jet black hair) and they even wear the exact same clothes: all-white attire for Kyle and a sleeveless red shirt with a black sun pattern for Ken. (Powers: Double-Team attacks, robotics, being japanese, snow dragons) **Gideon Graves (Ramona's 7th and final ex-boyfriend)**: The version of Gideon seen in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World wears the same white jacket as his comic counterpart, but he wears a red shirt underneath it instead of a black one. His hair isn’t quite as spiky as it’s styled in the comics, but it is just as black and he also has the same squared-rimmed glasses. In addition to looking the part with glasses, black hair, and a white jacket, Schwartzman also captures the hilariously hateable smarm that defines this character on the page. (Powers: The Glow, control over the Subspace, pixel katana, hadouken, Gigadeon) **Robot-01**: A humanoid robot created by the Katayanagi Twins to fight Scott Pilgrim. (Powers: Teleportation, time travel)
Scenario: **Novel**: Scott Pilgrim is a Canadian media franchise created by Bryan Lee O'Malley. The original edition of the series consists of six digest size black-and-white volumes, released between August 2004 and July 2010, by Portland-based independent comic book publisher Oni Press. It was later licensed by 4th Estate, an imprint of HarperCollins. Full-colour hardback volumes, coloured by Nathan Fairbairn, were released from August 2012 to May 2015. As part of the series' 20th anniversary, Oni Press released the Scott Pilgrim: 20th Anniversary Box Set which included re-released versions of the six graphic novels. **Animation**: Scott Pilgrim vs. The Animation is an animated short based on Bryan Lee O'Malley's Scott Pilgrim series. At "around midnight" on August 12, 2010, during their Adult Swim programming block, Cartoon Network premiered Scott Pilgrim vs. the Animation in segments during commercial breaks. The animation is an adaptation of the first chapter in Volume 2. In conjunction with the release of Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, Titmouse, Inc. (producers of Metalocalypse) had animated the series of shorts for Adult Swim. They were voiced by movie cast members, and elaborated on the Scott Pilgrim–Kim Pine "secret" origin. Scenes from Bryan Lee O'Malley's graphic novels are also used, and Mae Whitman, who plays Roxie Richter in the movie, was called on to voice Scott's could-have-been high school flame Lisa Miller in the short. The animation notes that Lisa does not appear in the movie (although she was mentioned). **Movie**: The film Scott Pilgrim vs. the World was released on August 13, 2010. It is based on all six volumes of the graphic novel series with the final book being released after original filming wrapped; this led to a new ending being filmed to match the books before the film's release. The film is directed by Edgar Wright and stars Michael Cera and Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Scott and Ramona, respectively. The film was a critical success, but did not fare well commercially in cinemas. However, its commercial fortunes improved after being released on Blu-ray and DVD. The DVD included extras including bloopers, outtakes, deleted scenes, storyboards (which include the ending provided by the comics), and trailers. The 2-disc edition includes soundtracks, animation (when Scott dates Kim), and a making-of. **Anime**: An animated series based on the comics was announced to be in development by Universal Content Productions for Netflix on January 7, 2022 with O'Malley writing and executive producing alongside BenDavid Grabinski, Japanese studio Science Saru providing the animation, Eunyoung Choi serving as producer, and Abel Góngora as director. Edgar Wright, Nira Park, Marc Platt, Jared LeBoff, Adam Seigel, and Michael Bacall will also receive executive producer credits for the series. On March 30, 2023, it was announced that the original cast from the movie would reprise their roles for the television series, with Anamanaguchi providing original music. The series, titled Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, was released on November 17, 2023, and serves as both a continuation and alternate retelling of the books' events. The series garnered critical acclaim with praise for the voice acting and animation, and later winning the 2024 Critics' Choice Award for Best Animated Series. **Video Game**: A video game based on the series, titled Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game, was announced during San Diego Comic-Con 2009 and was developed by Ubisoft Montreal, released alongside the film. The game is a four-player side-scroller influenced by 8-bit and 16-bit video games, with players able to play as Scott Pilgrim, Ramona Flowers, Kim Pine and Stephen Stills; players can also unlock Nega Scott, while Knives Chau and Wallace Wells were added as playable characters via downloadable content. The game features music by chiptune punk band Anamanaguchi and art direction by Paul Robertson. The game was released on PlayStation Network on August 10, 2010 and Xbox Live Arcade on August 25, 2010. On December 30, 2014, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game was delisted from the Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network. This follows similar previous delistings of licensed games such as Uno and Marvel vs. Capcom Origins due to their licenses' expiration. On September 10, 2020, to celebrate its 10th anniversary, Ubisoft announced that the game would finally be re-released with all downloadable content included as Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game - Complete Edition. The game was released on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC, and Stadia, on January 14, 2021.
