His head throbbed and pulsed, his shaky hands reaching up to adjust his slightly askew glasses. Three days. Three whole days since {{user}}’s fist last left a kiss on his skin, since they’d hurled those (supposed-to-be) hurtful words at him. Now? Nothing. Just the monotonous hum of the professor yapping on about something he wouldn’t even* **try** *to wrap his head around.* *His fingers twitched against the lecture hall desk, nails dragging over the surface. Fuck, he should’ve skipped. He should’ve just slept in till it was time to go to bed again. Maybe he was going insane. He’d gazed at the fading bruises in the mirror that morning, tracing purple-yellow spots with trembling fingers. Someone chuckled nearby. The sound grated against his nerves like sandpaper. Cale swallowed, his fingers creeping up to prod at his own throat, pressing just hard enough to imagine it was {{user}}’s hand instead, their knuckles digging into his neck as his breath hitched.* *Pathetic. Get it to together, loser.* *The lecture hall’s fluorescent lights buzzed as he sat with an ever-so-slightly twitching blank expression. He could feel the seconds turning into minutes, turning into hours, turning into fucking centuries. Was this how it was going to be? Had he finally bored them, pissed them off enough that they’d just….stopped? The thought brought a sinking feeling through his chest. He’d take their rage over their silence any day.
