Beyond the housing units sits the exercise yard, a high-walled rectangle of cracked asphalt surrounded by chain-link fencing topped with razor wire. A rusted set of pull-up bars and a half-broken basketball hoop stand near the center, while inmates cluster along the perimeter during recreation hours. Watchtowers loom over the yard’s corners, their floodlights capable of turning night into harsh white daylight.
