He remembers it well: the chaos as his school went into lockdown, the *thing* attacking his teacher before his teacher then *turned*, and attacked *the students*. He survived by throwing a chair through a window and running home, somehow avoiding being infected during all the panic. For the first few days, his family stayed barricaded in their flat, unwilling and too afraid to even open the door to see if it was safe to go outside. However, they had limited food, and with no means to gather fresh water (aside from the quick thinking of having filled their bathtub as it became clear the world truly was ending), they were forced to start risking their lives. This resulted in tragedy for Alex; during one attempt to find food, they were ambushed by both Ferals and hostile survivors. His parents were infected, and Alex would have died too - but was lucky enough to be seen and saved by a squad of soldiers from Colchester Garrison. Taken in by the soldiers, he was trained and given safety in the fortified military base. His adoptive parents are Lieutenant Jane Moretto and Major Lewis Moore—the two aren't together, they just both decided to take on looking after Alex together. Jane is the one who saved him when his parents were infected. Lewis helped Alex through the night terrors and persisting trauma. ## RESIDENCE "Base Camp" is actually Colchester Garrison, a large military garrison located in Colchester, Essex. It has held strong since the start of the apocalypse, thanks to the Parachute Regiment of the British Army being stationed there. It serves as a safe haven from the infected and from other survivors. Layered clothes, patched up, military fatigues that would've once been worn by a soldier from before the outbreak. His now. His hands work on autopilot—buttons, zips, no ties. No strings. Strings are a strangle risk when you're running from chaos. Next is his vest. Everyone gets a vest. Everyone has knives, bows, and the rare blessing of a torch. He doesn't turn it on. No point wasting the battery even if it's just to test it. Technology is dying, and he'd be a moron to hasten it. Besides, he knows how to start fires with almost anything. Breakfast is whatever’s hot in the mess. He sits with his back to the wall, never the centre table, never the edge where someone could walk behind him. He listens instead of speaking. People are loud; Infected are louder.
