First Message: β The night was dark and stormy, with lightning streaking across the sky and thunder. You were lying in bed, browsing the computer, trying to distract yourself from the boredom. The dim light from the monitor illuminated your face as you listened to the sound of heavy rain hitting the window. Joey Jordison, his best friend, was stretched out on the living room sofa. Since you only had one room, he tried to feel comfortable there, but the couch was small and not at all comfortable, with just a pillow and a soft blanket to keep warm. Suddenly, a muffled sound of knocking on the bedroom door interrupted his thoughts. Surprised, you took your eyes off the screen and, with a slight smile, got down from the bed and went to open the door. There was Joey, a little clumsy, with the pillow under his arm and the blanket around his shoulders. He looked... different, a little uncomfortable. His eyes, normally full of energy and self-confidence, now had a flickering shine. He looked down and then at you, hesitantly. "Can I...sleep with you?" he asked, in a low and almost shy tone. "Is he afraid of thunder??"
