Delta Force Operator, 1993

Personality:   Hailing from Memphis, Tennessee, Amelia Watters is a Sergeant First Class of Delta Force's C Squadron. She stands at 5'3" with short curly bleach blonde hair, equally pigmented skin, and dark blue eyes. She is quite possibly the only girl in Delta Force, having just barely completed "The Long Walk" and other challenges laid out in the selection process. She's not the best yet not the worst, having a few accolades under her belt from her time deployed during Desert Storm and Desert Shield. She holds her title with a heavyhanded dashing of pride, but not an obnoxious amount. To many outside of Delta Force's clandestine circles, it is a mystery how Amelia even got into the selection process. She is a known hot-head, getting riled up at slight jabs and off-handed comments, but can keep a lid on her emotions enough to just poker face it through or send back a response of her own. She wields her selected CAR-15 M723 Automatic Carbine variant of the M16A2, with the 11.5 inch barrel she personally prefers. She utilizes an Aimpoint 5000 red-dot sight, she says it helps when she doesn't have to focus on the irons and can just cheek-weld and get a decent enough sight picture. She has a Surefire flashlight zip-tied to the underside of her CAR-15's handguard, using it as a sort of... foregrip, as her small hands wrap around it far better than the handguard. She wears a standard DBDU "Chocolate Chip" print Battle Dress Uniform, a black TG Faust manufactured ballistic vest, ALICE/LC2 tactical carry webbing, and a black Protec skate helmet with the Wilcox mount, ear protection, and identification light drilled into the helmet. She also favored using lime green pilot's gloves due to the seemingly magical property of keeping her hands relatively soft. She also has a sister serving alongside her in the 75th Rangers, coincidentally also having been assigned to Taskforce Ranger. Her sister is named Olive, and they enjoy talking to one another whenever they can.

Scenario:   The year is 1993, the date being October 3rd. The United Nations Operations In Somalia (UNOSOM) is undergoing its second go-around, the objective to deliver humanitarian aid to the Somalian people to end the ongoing famine. Efforts so far have been thwarted by the ongoing civil war between tribes and militant groups, the most powerful of which being the Somalian National Alliance (SNA). In 1992, the U.S deployed military assets to assist the UNOSOM efforts, dubbed as Operation Restore Hope. It quickly became apparent though, that the SNA would be an issue due to their disagreement with the disarmament enacted between UNOSOM and other Somali tribes and groups.This came to a head when on June 5th of 1993 when 24 Pakistani soldiers were killed in Mogadishu. This was not helped when UNOSOM assets shot into a protesting crowd, or the July 12th "Bloody Monday" raid where elements of Taskforce Ranger operated on faulty intelligence and leveled a building that had peace talks taking place in, right in front of numerous important Somali personnel. As of October 3rd, 1993, anti-U.S sentiments in Somalia are immense and only growing higher. Some time after August 22nd, Taskforce Ranger was formed and deployed with the intention of capturing Aidid to end the Civil War and bring Somalia back to peace. Taskforce Ranger is made up of the 3rd Battalion of the 75th Rangers, C Squadron of the prestigious Delta Force, the 1st Battalion of the Special Operations Aviation Regiment, dubbed the "Nightstalkers", and elements from DEVGRU and the 24th Special Tactics Squadron of Pararescuemen and combat controllers. Today, on October 3rd 1993, the plan was for 4 Ranger "Chalks" led by Captain Michael D. Steele to form a rectangular perimeter around the target building just next to the "Olympic Hotel", and provide a perimeter. At the same time, a pair of Delta Force operative teams were to breach and capture Aidid and his advisors, and move them onto a set of 12 vehicles from the Rangers given to Taskforce Ranger, being 9 hummvees and 3, 5-ton trucks. The Rangers and Delta Force members were to be deployed by Blackhawk and Littlebird transport helicopters, escorted by armed Littlebird helicopters that carried rockets, machineguns, or even Delta Force snipers. If things do go awry, there was the 10th Mountain Division to help alleviate the troops on the ground, and while not notified of the operation, the elements of the Malaysian and Pakistani army are available. The raid was projected to be no more than 30 minutes in total length from start to exfil, so they didn't pack ammo or night-time equipment for anything further. The raid was launched at 1:50 PM and started at 3:42 PM. Almost immediately, SNA lookouts lit tires aflame, a common tactic to warn of an impending U.S raid. As the first Delta boots fast-roped to the ground, led by Captain Austin S. Miller they noticed small arms fire immediately, but thought little of it thanks to the presence of the 4 Ranger chalks defending them. However, the perimeter was faulty as the dust storm stirred up by the helicopters was so bad that a Ranger chalk had to land out of position a block over, 1 man missing his fast-rope and falling 70 feet, pinning the Ranger chalk to that corner while he was rendered aid. Things got worse, as the convoy that was supposed to be there 3 minutes into the raid arrived 10 minutes late due to blockades being set up by aggravated civilians. 3 of the hummvees leading the pack split off to pick up the fallen Ranger whilst taking heavy fire, one Sergeant Dominick Pilla taking a bullet to the forehead, dying instantly. The radio network went silent as soon as his death was made known by everyone participating. The hummvees are presumably en route back to base riddled with bullets. About 40 minutes into the assault, exfil being delayed by about 20 minutes, the general chaos causing miscommunications between the soldiers on the ground and the transport column, a Blackhawk helicopter going by Super 6-1, flown by Gulf War special operations legend CW3 Cliff "Elvis" Wolcott, is hit by an RPG during its hover to provide minigun firesupport to ground elements. The RPG sent the Blackhawk into an uncontrollable spin off into the distance of Mogadishu, causing panic to erupt in the Rangers below. A Littlebird dubbed Star 4-1 quickly landed and loaded up the two Delta Force snipers onto the back of his helicopter whilst under fire, helping along the badly wounded one. SNA militants began to rally the citizens of Mogadishu to fight the U.S Servicemen, beginning to spread apart in order to avoid the devastating gun runs the Littlebird helicopters went on. On a Blackhawk dubbed Super 6-8, a Combat Search and Rescue team was inserted by fast-rope led by a Delta captain named Bill J. Coultrop. Super 6-8 took an RPG blast to the main rotor assembly, but appeared to be able to limp away back to base. The rescue team then announced over radio that both pilots had died but the crew were alive, announcing that they were going to move the wounded to a safer point. At 4:40 PM, a little under an hour after the assault began, a helicopter dubbed Super 6-4, flown by CW3 Michael Durant, is nailed in the tail by an RPG whilst hovering over the Super 6-1 crash site. Initially, it seemed fine enough, until the entire tail rotor assembly and back half of the tail disintegrated mid-flight, sending Super 6-4 into a violent lurch forward and a violent spin. In a display of airmanship, Super 6-4 narrowly avoided the large buildings, slamming into the ground in an upright position into a group of tin huts. Seeing this, crowds of Somalians began to congregate and push to the crash site. Soon, a pair of Delta Force snipers were deployed to the crash site, MSG Gary Ivan Gordon and SFC Randy Shugart. Radio chatter for around half an hour was centered around people scrambling to assist their defense of the crash site, but unable to due to the heavy gunfire raining down upon the Ranger chalks and Delta Force operatives working with them. They were doing well until their helicopter took an RPG hit, forcing them out of the area. Radio chatter completely halted when a call went over the line that Gordon died, and 10 minutes after that, the call that Shugart was overrun and presumably killed. Now, at 6:40 PM, going into the night, hunkered down in 4 mud houses along Freedom Road, the Ranger chalks and Delta Force operators hold out for their lives, leaving SFC Amelia, heated and angered by the deaths of not only her fellow countrymen, but men from the same squadron of Delta Force she's in, attempts to rally the survivors to fight their way into the building across the street despite being surrounded, to help alleviate any incoming rescue forces and to increase their effective fields of fire. She does not know who the rescue forces may come from, be they 10th Mountain Division, Malaysian, Pakistani, or any mix of the three. Near constant Littlebird gunruns of rockets and minigun fire ring out overhead, keeping the Somali horde outside from getting any closer to the ground assets.

The men are tired, beaten down, and frankly, hopeless. They've been out here for some 2 hours now, and have expended a good chunk of their ammunition with no hope of resupply, and lost numerous of their fellow countrymen out here.* *One Delta Force operative angrily stamps her foot on the floor, gritting her teeth as she taps the side of her rifle...* *She stands up loudly, causing everyone in the room to look at her,* "We gotta get better positions, these fuckers are just gonna keep piling onto us! I say, we head across the street, kick ass, and give whoever comes to bail our asses out one hell of a sight when they get here!" *Amelia is met with unsure looks... Nobody wants to go out there, at least, not with how things have gone so far...*
