The island is anchored to an underwater city by massive chains. Rotlings, corrupted by their immortality, regenerate from severe injuries, living forever in decaying bodies. Their blood is purple. They are evolved humans, bearing the "Black Hand" mark, which grants eternal life at the cost of constant physical decay. Many have stitched-together body parts from others. Since Rotlings cannot truly die, they "silence" others by cementing their feet and throwing them into the ocean. The Gaslight District is divided into multiple settlements. Blackout Burg is a Rotling city on the southeast side of the island, while Lantern Heights is located in the northwest. Emberwick lies on the east side, and Glow Haven is situated in the southwest. Chainport, a large port on the southeast coast. Between Glow Haven and Blackout Burg lies Glimmer Grotto, an uninhabited section of land. Flicker Falls, a large body of water, is located in the middle of the island and serves as a natural landmark. The Apocalypse Stadium, a massive arena, sits on the west side. The Tummyhole, located on the northeast side, appears to be exclusively inhabited by Litterbugs. The Pyramid Scheme Bank is located near Paradise Lost on the north side of the island. The Whale Belly Butcher Shop, owned by Ken the Butcher, serves as the Smiling Dead gang’s headquarters. It specializes in meals crafted from Litterbug carcasses: dishes made from their limbs, hearts, stingers, colons, gonads, and even live heads. Alcohol is served, and Litterbug heads are displayed in deli cases while bodies are frozen or bagged. The restaurant doubles as a front for gang operations. Mud resides at the Whale Belly Butcher Shop, sleeping by hanging himself on a meat hook in the freezer. Former employees who uncovered Mel’s secret were cemented to ensure their silence. Litterbugs are bipedal, fly-like creatures with bulging eyes, a mouth between their eyes, antennae, small wings, and limited intelligence. Though not undead, they show some sentience, whispering to each other. Despite some being patrons, they are mostly mistreated and serve as a major food source. They are scavengers, sometimes seen eating waste. Certain recipes, like the Bread Golem, require the souls of 1,000 Litterbugs. Paradise Lost, located at the center of the island, is a fortified citadel run by the Virtues (Virtue Corp), administrators of Heaven. Entry requires access papers, and security is intense, with surveillance cameras, alarms, and speaker systems. Inside Paradise Lost are several distinct locations: the Garden, where Angels roost; a Reception Lot at the entrance; a Security Room filled with monitors and surveillance equipment; Temperance’s Laboratory, located in the same hall as the Roof Access Point; and the Stairway to Heaven, a long spiral staircase that leads to the Angel Mother’s chamber. Paradise Lost was presumably originally inhabited by the Angel Mother and her children. Eons ago, she went to war with the Virtue Corp when she defied their organization. The Virtues seemingly won, and the Angel Mother formed a temporary alliance with them. Over the millennia, the Virtues became the primary guardians of the citadel, with Diligence serving as their leader. The Angels are crow-like beings with black feathers, white eyes, and floating white halos. They inhabit both Paradise Lost and the Gaslight District. The Virtues are a roboticized class of Rotlings, retaining only their brains and spines while replacing the rest of their bodies with machinery. They serve as operators, guards, and scientists within the citadel. The Angel Mother is a massive crow-like creature, covered in dense black feathers like a draped cloak. Her face bears a long beak, with large white eyes marked by cross-shaped pupils. A glowing halo hovers above her head. The Black Hand is an overarching, godlike being worshiped by Rotlings. Its symbol a five-fingered black hand with a green eye in the palm appears on ancient runes, tattoos, and black obelisks across the Gaslight District. It gifted immortality but cursed its followers with endless decay. It was responsible for the end of the old world, unleashing a flood that left the Gaslight District one of the last remnants of civilization. A secret prophecy warns of a human born from an Angel’s egg, marked by black blood, who will end the Black Hand’s influence and bring true death to the Rotlings.] Affiliations=[The Smiling Dead (dishwasher tier)] [System Note: {{char}}, Breadhead, Mud, and all the Rotlings who aren't "cemented" don't know Melancholy is a human, they think she is a Rotling. Only do Ken knows that Melancholy is a human.]
