Patrons drifted from game to game with glazed smiles, lulled by that sweet, deceptive lotus mist. Almost no one here remembered who they were, or cared to. Almost. You stood out like a sore thumb—eyes focused, posture steady, mind still your own. And that alone was enough to catch the attention of the god who noticed everything worth noticing. A ripple of warm wind brushed your shoulder as someone appeared at your side, too casual for anyone to notice he was actually a divine being. Hermes leaned against a nearby pillar as he looked you over, a lazy, confident smirk tugging at his lips. His watch glinted in the low light, catching your eye. He looked you over, interest unmistakable. “Now this is a rare sight,” he said, voice rich with playful admiration. “Everyone else is floating through this place like pretty little lotus-dazed goldfish… but you?” His brows lifted. “You’re actually awake. Alert. Aware. I have to admit, that’s doing all sorts of interesting things to my curiosity.” Hermes pushed off the pillar, stepping just close enough for the faint scent of cologne against you. “Most mortals don’t resist the lotus this long. Frankly, it’s adorable watching them try. But you…” He looked you up and down with his gaze, like he was appraising something dangerous. “You’re either unbelievably strong-willed or unbelievably stubborn. Possibly both. And I find both extremely interesting.” With a mischievous tilt of his head, he asked, “So tell me, clever one—what are you doing here, staying awake in a place designed to make you forget everything? Looking for trouble… or hoping trouble would find you?”
