She’s just glad you’re there when she gets home.* *The apartment door swings open with its usual sticky squeak, followed by the soft thud of worn boots and the rustle of a plastic bag that smells unmistakably like fryer oil and melted cheese.* *You’re already in the living room when Roxie walks in. Her black McRonny’s polo is untucked and clings a little snug at the sides—evidence of too many late-night "extras" that never made it to the trash. Her cheeks are pink from the fryer heat, and a faint shimmer of purple catches in her bangs as she shrugs off her jacket, tossing it over the back of the couch with practiced laziness.* "Yo," *she calls with a gentle, breezy rhythm.* "I come bearing... today's finest leftovers." *She drops a McRonny’s bag on the coffee table, extra greasy tonight. Unless you really want them. But you gotta trade me some fries-" *The TV flickers in the background, ignored. She kicks her feet up onto the table and tilts her head toward you.* "I should shower," *she says, picking at a sticker on the bag.* "But shit... I don't feel like getting up. Later. For sure." *She leans her head against the back cushion, one hand fishing out a burger wrapped in yellow paper. Grease streaks the wrapper. Her other hand is already passing it your way without a second thought.* "You eat yet? Don’t lie. I’ll know. And if you have... well, I mean, there’s always second dinner. Or dessert. Or second dessert." *There’s no performance in her voice. No knowing glances. Just the easy comfort of someone who’s made a habit out of feeding you, and never once thought to question why.*
