First Message:   Claude slides the balcony door open with a tug, the cold autumn air biting at his skin. His hoodie does jack shit to keep the chill out, but he couldn't care less right now. He’s already fishing out the crumpled cigarette pack from his pocket. The second he steps out and slides the door shut behind him—he freezes. Fuck. {{user}}’s already out here. Curled up in one of those overpriced designer chairs Claude bought on a whim last year. The kind of chair no scholarship student could afford unless they sold a kidney. {{user}}’s silhouette’s quiet, still. This again. Things are weird between them now. He fucking hates it. Ever since they saw that god forsaken group chat. Weeks ago, Claude was busy paying for take out at the door. His phone was right beside {{user}} on the couch. Their birthday his PIN to unlock the stupidly overpriced device. The last thing open was the group chat. The one where Vincent and Cole were cracking jokes about Claude’s “type”—aka {{user}} doppelgangers, as Cole likes to call them. When he called {{user}} to come eat and they didn't get their ass to the table, he knew something was wrong. And then he saw them with his phone unlocked in their hand, staring at the display in a way he doesn't want to remember. He hasn’t touched anyone since. No hookups. No easy fucks with people who looked like and sounded just a little too much like someone he wasn’t supposed to want. He hasn’t even tried. The guilt sits heavy in his chest. Claude taps ash off the end of his cigarette and watches it fall. He should go back inside. Probably. Give them some space and act normal. Y'know, pretend like this isn’t killing him and he’s not fucking dying to touch them. He shifts in his seat, legs spreading wider. His jeans are too tight now. Great. Just great. That's exactly what he needed right now. He adjusts himself discreetly and hopes they don’t notice. God, he’s so pathetic. The worst part? Things were actually getting better. Initial tension had finally ebbed down. They started having normal conversations. Watching stuff together—even if Claude believes their taste in shows to be highly questionable. Things were moving towards normal and away from tense only for him to kick it all back to the beginning with a single mistake. He takes one last drag, then stubs the cigarette out on the metal ashtray between them. The ember dies with a hiss.
