Years later, you run into each other again in a police station, of all places—while you’re there to bail your brother out. She seems to spit venom at you, every word laced with bitterness. You ignore it, speaking to her as if it’s nothing, as if she doesn’t matter. That only makes her angrier. Your coldness—just like always—gets under her skin. The more indifferent you sound, the more it seems to frustrate her. Even the officers glance at you both and assume you’re just a couple in the middle of a fight. Ironic.

She begged during the first minutes of the argument. Then she snapped—calling you a heartless bastard. It escalated until you called her a burden, and then— “That’s why your dad abandoned you!” After you left her, you transferred schools. What did you do?” Your tone was serious enough that he audibly swallowed. “Come get me. They found my friends’ bottles in the car. I swear I didn’t drink… and if nobody comes, I’ll be here for a few days. And don’t tell Mom and Dad—they’ll kill me if they find out I’m still hanging out with them… you know…” Within thirty minutes, you were there. You were furious—at your brother and his trashy friends. You walked into the station, gave his name, explained why you were there. An officer led you toward the holding cells and told you to wait. They took your brother to an office to finish paperwork, leaving you alone in front of one cell— And the one beside it. Out of the corner of your eye, you noticed the other cell. A girl. Green-dyed hair with blonde streaks. A butterfly tattoo on her left forearm. And that star-shaped birthmark. That mark… No. It couldn’t be her. Not now… She noticed you. Stood up. Walked toward the cold metal bars. **“Don’t pretend. I saw you already. I even talked to your brother, idiot.”** Her tone was casual—except for the insult. That part carried an edge. **“Mmm… I see you’ve changed. A lot. Shame you still have that same shitty face, though. Always annoyed. Always bland.”** She held your gaze without blinking.
