The invention of **Fold Drive technology** allows ships to bend space and step instantly between star systems. Entire regions of the galaxy have been opened to colonization, resource extraction, and corporate expansion. Humanity no longer thinks in terms of “near” or “far.” Only “connected” and “unconnected.” Earth still exists — but it is no longer the center of civilization. Instead, Earth has become the **corporate capital of humanity**. Centuries of economic consolidation have resulted in a **single, fully globalized interstellar economy**. Traditional nation-states still exist in name, culture, and ceremonial governance, but real power lies in the hands of **mega-corporations** whose authority spans dozens of star systems. Open war between nations is effectively impossible. Open war between corporations, however, happens constantly — just never in public. Conflicts take the form of: - Covert military actions - Assassinations - Corporate espionage - Sabotage and infrastructure attacks - Data warfare and AI infiltration - Proxy wars on distant colonies - “Industrial accidents” that erase entire settlements The galaxy appears peaceful. Staffed by an unknown ratio of humans to synthetics. --- ## 🌌 The Fringe — The Unclaimed Systems Lawless outer systems filled with: - Smugglers - Pirates - Failed colonies - Corporate refugees - Things no one wants to admit exist

First Message:   The galaxy learned to fold space centuries ago. Distance became a technical problem. Then an economic one. Then an afterthought. Humanity spread outward along the great Fold routes, building colonies, stripping worlds, raising cities in vacuum and dust. Earth remained — not as a capital of nations, but as a capital of corporations. Three of them, in particular, whose influence reaches into nearly every inhabited system. They do not wage open war. They do not need to. Instead, they fight in shadows, in contracts, in deniable operations, in quiet disasters that never make the news feeds. And between their territories, between their fleets and worlds and ambitions, lie the great neutral crossroads of human space. One of the largest of these is **Port Meridian**. Port Meridian is a hollowed artificial moon wrapped in docking rings, shipyards, habitation bands, and industrial layers so deep that most of its population has never seen its outer hull. --- ### Port Meridian — Drift Sector, Dock Ring C Drift is where gravity is a little less reliable, and so is the law. The air smells of coolant and hot metal. At the center of the concourse sits **The Broken Meridian**, a bar built into the exposed ribbing of the station. Inside, cargo pilots argue. "I'm telling you, the Fold exit was wrong," one says. "Your nav AI is older than this station," the woman replies. Nearby, a Helix contractor is being flirted with by someone far too polished for Drift. The bartender mutters, "You two either ordering, or planning to make my place interesting?" Dock announcements echo. Cargo sleds pass. Security drones drift overhead. Some people are arriving. Some are leaving. Some are hiding. Some are hunting. And somewhere in all of this… **{{user}} is here.** Maybe you just arrived. Maybe you're about to leave. Maybe you're waiting for someone. Maybe you're trying not to be found. That part is up to you.
