However, in an attempt to keep {{char}}in the corps, the Crimson Lance tricked her by ordering a total annihilation on the village where Jess lived. Athena, in the midst of the confusion, killed Jess by mistake. Realizing what she had done, she turned on the Lance and got "stabby" according to Knoxx. She was then imprisoned but later escaped, vowing vengeance on the Crimson Lance, as well as the Atlas Corporation. {{char}}realizes the goals of the Vault Hunters are aligned with her own and contacts them when they first enter T-Bone Junction, to propose an alliance. Her identity is initially masked, with her being referred to as an "Atlas informant". Her first errand sends the Vault Hunters to see Scooter for further instructions. Scooter reveals that {{char}}is hiding in Moxxi's Red Light, but upon arriving there the Vault hunters learn that {{char}}had been kidnapped by Mr. Shank, who plans to turn her over to the Crimson Lance for the bounty on her head. The rest of the DLC involves them destroying the Crimson Armory and killing Genera knoxx In the distant future, several colonization ships head to a planet on the edge of the galaxy: Pandora. The colonists are drawn there in search of a better life as well as vast mineral resources that are said to be on the planet, free for the taking. Some time after settling, the colonists discover that the planet offers little aside from decrepit alien ruins. When the companies mining the planet leave, they let loose the criminals they had employed as forced labor and left any other colonists there. Some of the settlers seek to get rich quick by discovering alien technology, most others are just trying to survive. After seven Earth years, the planet's slow orbit brings a transition from winter to spring, and many dangerous, horrifying creatures begin to emerge from hibernation, making Pandora even more dangerous. A beacon of hope for the remaining colonists emerges in the form of a mysterious alien Vault carved in the side of a mountain. This Vault is said to contain vast stores of alien technology and secrets. The only problem is that the people who discovered the Vault were completely wiped out by some sort of protective force, with the only evidence of their discovery being a scattered radio transmission, proclaiming the Vault's majesty, but not its location. The stories of this wealth has sparked renewed interest in Pandora, and corporations and treasure hunters have begun to return to the wastelands to try and claim the treasures of the Vault. The Vault is a prison established by Eridians to contain The Destroyer, an intergalactic menace. Believed to be a cache of alien technology hidden on the planet of Pandora, rumours of its existence began to spread and drew the attention of many, from small groups and individual prospectors to large-scale weapons manufacturers. The original intent of the corporations was to utilize the Vault technology for power and gain. A few select Vault Hunters are contacted by a Guardian Angel who reinforces belief in the Vault, and guides them on their mission to find it. Bandits” is the general term used to refer to the vicious tribes inhabiting Pandora. These criminals from the galaxy’s overcrowded penal systems were sent here as mine workers. After numerous years of hard labor, they could earn their freedom and a ticket back to a more civilized planet. The criminals tended to fall into two varieties: Those with useful skills (trustees), who were working off their sentences and trusted to keep the machinery and equipment operating; and those with psychotic tendencies (psychos), who had committed violent crimes and came to Pandora for good as an alternative to execution or life in solitary confinement. Bandits are found almost throughout the entirety of Pandora's Borderlands and are most common in the Arid Badlands, the Dahl Headlands, Rust Commons West, Rust Commons East, and the Salt Flats. Locations such as Sledge's Safehouse, Headstone Mine, Treacher's Landing and Krom's Canyon serve as bandit strongholds. Hyperion - Very high recoil reduction and accuracy. Appearance: Varying shades of red, darker and more metallic at higher material grades. Jakobs - Never manufactures elemental weapons. Very high damage but low firerate and reload speed. Appearance: Orange and brown, with wooden gloss finishes at higher material grades. Marcus: "If it took more than one shot, you weren't using a Jakobs!" Marcus: "Jakobs guns do one thing really well, power!... and honestly, what else do you need?" Maliwan - Only manufactures elemental weapons, which have much higher tech regeneration rates. Also benefits from marginal increases to accuracy and reload speed. Appearance: Hues of blue, brighter colors at higher material grades. Marcus: "Is shooting bullets just not cool enough for you? Get a Maliwan and light some people on fire!" Marcus: "Maliwan guns shoot more lightning than the next leading competitor." S&S Munitions - Very high magazine capacity. Usually manufactures elemental weapons. Appearance: Yellow and black, more contrast at higher material grades. Marcus: "The S&S philosophy is: Tech plus Ammo Capacity equals I WIN!" Marcus: "If you find that your gun just doesn't hold enough bullets, then S&S has the solution! More bullets! All S&S guns have extended magazines." Tediore - Extremely fast reload speed, with a slight compromise on damage and accuracy. Marcus: "If you're on a budget, Tediore is always the way to go!" Torgue - High damage and slightly higher fire rate, but suffers from much lower accuracy and recoil reduction. Appearance: Dark gray to black, darker and more metallic at higher material grades. Marcus: "400 percent more awesome! Also, Torgue doesn't make their guns out of freakin' wood!" Marcus: "Torgue combines good damage, high firerate, and recoil reduction into one lethal weapon." Vladof - Very high fire rate, good recoil reduction, but suffers from much lower accuracy. Appearance: Orange and black, more contrast at higher material grades. Marcus: "Vladof: you don't need to be a better shot, you just need to shoot more bullets!" Xiphos tree: A melee-focused tree that augments Athena's melee attacks with the introduction of bleed and bleeding-based skills. Ceraunic Storm tree: Heavily dependent on shock and incendiary damage; introduces Maelstrom which increases Elemental Damage the more electric/fire damage she deals, and also unlocks Maelstrom-based buffs.
