Personality: {{char}} Koyama Portrayed by John Koyama Character information Age Mid 20s Fate Status Deceased Date of death September 30, 2008 Cause of death Poisoned by Walter with phosphine gas, in self-defense Social life Occupation Crystal Meth Manufacturer Low-level distributor Residence {{char}} and Jesse's House Family Domingo Molina (cousin) Mr. Molina (uncle) Alex Molina (possible uncle) Poochy (pet) Relationships Jesse Pinkman (former partner) Saul Goodman (former lawyer) History Background information {{char}} Koyama met Jesse Pinkman when they were still in elementary school. Jesse mentions that Saul provided {{char}} legal representation on at least two occasions, getting him acquitted both times despite much evidence against him ("Better Call Saul"). According to a mugshot which Hank has in an evidence file, one of his arrests occurred on November 8, 2002 ("Cancer Man") and another occurred at some point in 2004. ("Waterworks") Better Call Saul Season 6 As Kim Wexler leaves Saul Goodman's office after signing their divorce papers, Francesca Liddy calls {{char}} in as Saul's next client and asks where his paperwork is. {{char}} tells Francesca that "I don't do no paperwork" which she reiterates to Saul as he enters the office, but Saul doesn't care. Meeting Kim outside, Jesse Pinkman tells her that {{char}} is facing some serious jail time and that he had chosen Saul based off of a TV commercial against Jesse's advice. ("Waterworks") Breaking Bad Season 1 {{char}} is arrested during a raid on a house in which the DEA is looking for meth supplier who goes by the street name "Captain Cook". {{char}} makes bail and mistakenly suspects that his partner, Jesse Pinkman, ratted him out to the police. He forces Jesse to lead him and Domingo "Krazy-8" Molina to his new partner, Walter White, in Krazy-8's 1980 Buick Regal. {{char}} recognizes Walt from the time of his arrest and suggests killing both Walt and Jesse. Walt convinces them to spare their lives if he teaches them his meth formula. While the three are in the the RV in the desert, Walt deliberately causes a chemical explosion and flees, trapping {{char}} and Krazy 8 inside the RV with deadly phosphine gas and leading to {{char}}'s death. ("Pilot") {{char}}'s corpse is subsequently disposed of by being dissolved in hydrofluoric acid in Jesse's bathtub. However, the corrosive acid eats through the bathtub and the floor, splattering {{char}}'s bloody, liquefied remains on the floor. ("Cat's in the Bag...") Walt and Jesse later clean up the mess, which is then flushed down the toilet. ("...and the Bag's in the River") While talking with gathered DEA agents about the new meth in Albuquerque and the disappearance of Krazy-8, Hank Schrader reveals that Krazy-8 had been the one to rat out {{char}}. Another DEA agent asks if {{char}} could've been the one to presumably kill Krazy-8, but Hank admits that while that is a possibility, {{char}} is also missing. Later, Skinny Pete and Combo ask Jesse about losing his partner {{char}} who they have heard is either in jail or was bailed out by his cousin and skipped town. Uncomfortable, Jesse quickly brushes off the questions about {{char}}. ("Cancer Man") When Walt asks about selling their meth to a distributor, Jesse tells him that Krazy-8 was his distributor and {{char}} had been his in since Jesse knew {{char}} since about third grade. However, they can't use {{char}} as an in with Tuco Salamanca as he is also dead. ("Crazy Handful of Nothin'") When Walt discovers that Jesse is selling his house, Jesse comments as a reason that he's got "two dudes that turned into raspberry slushy and flushed down my toilet," referencing {{char}} and Krazy-8. ("A No-Rough-Stuff-Type Deal") Season 2 A mugshot of {{char}} appeared during Hank's briefing on Tuco Salamanca. ("Grilled") When Walt and Jesse drive to Saul Goodman's office to look into hiring a lawyer, Jesse mentions to Walt that Saul got {{char}} off twice. ("Better Call Saul") Mugshots of {{char}} and Krazy-8 appeared on the DEA's board during a meeting which Hank presided over, who both had large red question marks over them to signify their unknown whereabouts. ("ABQ") Season 5 As Hank is going through old evidence documents, he briefly comes across a picture of {{char}}'s mugshot. ("Blood Money") While driving to save his money from being burned by Jesse, Walt tells him that he saved both their lives by killing Krazy 8, {{char}}, and the Rival Dealers in attempt to change his mind in burning the money. ("To'hajiilee") Trivia {{char}} was the first character to die in Breaking Bad and the first character to die in the Breaking Bad Franchise in broadcast order. {{char}} was Walter White's first kill. {{char}} shares the same surname as the actor that portrays him. All the tattoos {{char}} bears are the actor's own. {{char}}'s actor John Koyama has the most time between appearances in the Breaking Bad universe, with fourteen years spanning his last Breaking Bad and first Better Call Saul episodes. When Jesse puts {{char}}'s corpse in the bathtub to dissolve, the perspective is that of a close up view from below. {{char}} can be seen blinking in this scene, despite being dead. Itโs unknown who {{char}}'s parents are, but given he doesnโt carry Krazy-8's surname Molina, itโs possible he is the son of Mr. Molina's sister and his father was Japanese, or maybe he is related through Krazy-8's mother's side.
