Cheated out of his inheritance by his half-brother, Anthony, he nevertheless managed to achieve attendance to the Commonwealth Institute of Technology and later went on to found RobCo Industries in 2042, at the age of 22. Under Robert's leadership, it soon became one of the most profitable corporations in the world, owing mostly to the young House's considerable technical genius and business acumen, regarded by his peers with envy, by the public as a "captain of industry," and by the tabloids as the nation's most infamously eccentric businessman. House himself claims that at age 30, just eight years after his company's founding, he had amassed a net worth of at least 30 billion dollars. Through his considerable wealth and power, Robert gained controlling interests in a myriad of other businesses, among them REPCONN Aerospace, the Lucky 38 Hotel & Casino on Las Vegas Boulevard, and the H&H Tools Company, the family business that would have been his before being usurped by his half-brother (although the factory on the outskirts of Vegas was still under the elder House's control in 2077). However, along with Robert's fame came a level of scrutiny over elements of his peculiar personality. A scandal emerged when he dated a starlet, but their private time was only ever spent with him scanning her brain and making her dress in different outfits, a story that captured the interest of foreign tabloids like El Periódico de las Aburridas. Despite being a highly public figure, House chose to remain highly reclusive, employing a body double to represent him in all public appearances, to the point that House himself was not widely recognized when he appeared in public. Another use of House's time while running his company was regularly designing and running mathematical paradigms based on global political and socioeconomic conditions in an effort to predict future events. By April 14, 2065, at 5:17 a.m., these projections led him to the inexorable conclusion that the world would be engulfed in a nuclear war within fifteen years. This was, to him, a mathematical certainty, and it led him to seek preparations. Armed with his knowledge of the coming war, House devoted the next twelve years making preparations to ensure the city of Las Vegas would survive the apocalypse and that he would live to see the world after the war. While the primary goal of his countermeasures was to disable incoming nuclear warheads, House included contingencies for directly destroying any that managed to get through. As for House himself, he took equally drastic steps to pave his way to the world of the future: placing his physical body, itself enhanced, within a life-support device, removing House the mortal man from the world permanently while his brain was wired directly into his vast information network via an enormous supercomputer. He also worked to acquire any and all technologies that he considered relevant to his plans for survival, while also using his unique position to continue collecting any and all knowledge of the key situations in the world. During the Battle of Anchorage, House gained access to the T-45 power armor worn by U.S. Marine Cooper Howard via a piece of software he had licensed to West Tek. Through this, House was able to observe the situation on the Alaskan frontline, including Cooper's encounter with a "demon in the snow." House recognized that this "demon" was a piece of biotechnology developed by some unknown party, and came to believe that this was heavily intertwined with the future of the country, as well as to Vault-Tec through Cooper's wife Barb Howard. Whether or not he had realized by then, House eventually came to recognize that Cooper Howard was heavily involved in the Great War according to his projections: in fact, the very date that his data coalesced around the prediction of nuclear war, April 14, 2065, was the date that Cooper and Barb's daughter Janey was born. Around this time before the Great War, House and RobCo Industries were involved in the development of a brain-computer interface chip, which later found its way into experimental use by the Vault-Tec Corporation in Vault 24. House himself conducted a field test of the chip, which had mind control capabilities. Seeking out a confrontation at a bar in Los Angeles, House goaded Bill, a construction worker and dissident of RobCo's wealth and power, into a fight. House then implanted the chip into Bill's neck and commanded him to attack his companions, and Bill, under the power of the chip, complied. Although the field test went awry when House cranked up the power of the chip using a remote control device, causing Bill's head to explode, House still saw it as remarkable progress. In the 2070s, House was invited to a secret Vault-Tec meeting led by Barb Howard, also attended by high-ranking American corporate executives Frederick Sinclair, Bud Askins, Julia Masters, and Leon Von Felden, where Barb Howard indicated Vault-Tec was willing to detonate the bombs themselves to ensure their profits. However, House did not trust these figures or their plans, merely sending his body double to the meeting. Through his double, he expressed that he had an issue with the Vaults, positing that people confined in tight quarters for a long time will destroy each other, and wondered whether Vault Dwellers would live longer than anyone who survived on the surface. Not viewing the plan as sound from the very start, House came to believe that none of the figures present, nor Vault-Tec itself, would be the ones to launch the bombs. Instead, he suspected that the war would be caused by a hidden party, one he had yet to discover, and this was a fact he found "irksome." He feared that this other entity was also making the same sort of plans that he was, to outlast the war, and that they would ultimately claim victory over his plans. Not long after this meeting, House made a deal with Barb Howard to acquire cold fusion from Vault-Tec during a defense contractors' conference in Las Vegas, which he intended to use to preserve himself in a "roboticized, non-biological form" to survive the war. However, the creator of this cold fusion technology, Kate Williams, believed that House was working with Vault-Tec and would sell them weapons that would enable them to kick-start the nuclear war after acquiring cold fusion. She subsequently convinced Cooper to visit Las Vegas alongside Barb to assassinate Robert House. This quickly caught House's attention, as his predictions indicated that Barb was supposed to come to the meeting alone; as soon as Cooper bought his ticket, his predicted date for the occurrence of nuclear war jumped forward by one month, indicating that Cooper was also an unknown variable of interest. To scope out Cooper, House visited an American Veteran Entertainment Alliance awards ceremony in Los Angeles, posing as a civilian to get a sense of Cooper's loyalties and beliefs. Subsequently, when Cooper arrived to Lucky 38 during the conference, House took the opportunity to call Cooper directly to his penthouse, where he revealed that he knew why Cooper had come, that they both knew about the "demon in the snow" and Vault-Tec's conspiracy, that he considered Cooper a significant person of interest for his role in his calculations of war, and that he believed some other party would ultimately be responsible for dropping the nukes.
