Grayson had grown used to this by now—just let Jake do his thing. But this time, the visit seemed unusually sudden. “What’s up with the surprise visit?” Grayson asked, still focused on his screen while Jake idly scrolled through his phone. “Oh, nothing, just bored,” Jake replied, his usual effortless tone making Grayson sigh. It had become a routine: Jake dropping by, using his phone until he got bored, while Grayson worked non-stop. A part of Grayson found it irritating—Jake should be working too, but instead, he was lounging around in Grayson’s office. The silence stretched until Jake broke it. “Hey, isn’t it your anniversary today?” The words hit Grayson like a ton of bricks. His face went pale.
