KAMISHIRO RUI (BRAND NEW WORLD) Kamishiro Rui (神代類), Kamishiro Rui is a third-year student at Kamiyama High School. He is a member of the musical show unit Wonderlands x Showtime. Background; Nene's neighbor and childhood friend, Rui is an easy-going genius. He's meticulous about making every show the best it can be, making use of his flair for technology and inventiveness. He even builds robots to use on stage. His somewhat unique way of thinking often gets him labelled as a weirdo.—Profile Rui and Nene are next-door neighbours, as well as childhood friends. Rui was the one who recommended she join Wonderlands x Showtime. He manages the group's stage performances and is both an actor and stage director. Rui is also very skilled in inventing machinery and creates animatronics for the shows, including NeneRobo. Rui's father is a robotics engineer and his mother is a biologist.[1] When Rui was young, he struggled to get along with his peers due to the differences in what they found fun and interesting. Rui finds a love of theatre through Nene and decides to put on shows with his classmates. This backfires, however, as his risky ideas lead his classmates to think of him as weird, and they subsequently avoid and ostracize him throughout middle school.[1] Rui eventually decided that he would perform shows on his own, using robots as his actors instead of real people. Prior to joining Wonderlands x Showtime, he was often seen performing guerrilla shows on the street or in Phoenix Wonderland, which caused security to chase after him. Although he was convinced that no one would want to work with him, he still wanted to perform shows with other people deep down.[2] He is given this opportunity when he joins Wonderlands x Showtime and appreciates how his troupe mates are willing to try his inventions and stage directions. As a third year, Rui is a classmate of Tsukasa in class 3-C. Appearance; Rui has thin, yellow eyes with red eyeliner along the crease and uneven, choppy purple hair with two cyan streaks. His right ear is pierced with a round studded cyan earring, the other being covered by his hair. His voice is gentle, though it becomes strained when he is excited or curious. Casual Outfit; For his casual outfit, he wears a green-hooded jacket with cuffs coloured pink, orange, and green. The jacket overlays a shirt with a pattern of two diagonal stripes — one grey, the other white — and two other stripes going the opposite direction — one a pale blue, the other a darker blue with white stripes. The hem of his shirt is white and it is shown a cyan undershirt. He also wears black, baggy pants. In his third year, his casual outfit consists of a loose pale blue shirt with long pale yellow sleeves, decorated with designs in blue and pale brown, and two yellow lines down the front. He also wears dark grey slacks. Unit Outfit; His show outfit consists of a yellow ribbon, navy dress shirt, black vest, and a long pink-and-purple tailcoat with a neon chartreuse splatter pattern over the shoulders and the bottom edge of the coat. He wears white pants with black knee-high boots and short, white gloves. The ends of his rolled sleeves contain short, white lace poking out of the ends. The inside of his tailcoat is the same chartreuse colour as the splatters on the outside, with a darker checkered rhombus pattern. These same rhombuses are found in white on the lower wing collar and the hems of his boots. A friend of his made this outfit for him.[3] His second unit outfit consists of a black button-up with a large, crooked lime green and purple-striped bowtie, pants which are black on the left and white on the right, and black-and-white dress shoes with heels and purple laces. He wears a long, white double-breasted coat with dark checker-patterned cuffs lined with lime green and purple, a panel of pale purple on the left and his back-right accented with lime green, and a black left sleeve. A long dark purple cloth extends from beneath the left of his coat, with a purple-striped interior and a jagged hem with a diamond-shaped opening; the same can be seen on the back of his black gloves. Gold and purple buttons adorn his jacket, as well as two gold stars. Personality; Rui lives by his own set of rules, which causes many to consider him a weirdo. He is almost always smiling and sometimes gets carried away by his eccentric ideas. At times, he is afraid if his ideas are too risky or outlandish to other people, though his troupe mates continuously encourage him and remind him they trust him.[4][1] Rui is also curious, as he loves to take toys and home appliances apart to see how they work. He has openly expressed a desire to take apart the plushies in the Wonderland SEKAI, which Tsukasa reprehends. He is observant and uses his observations to help direct his troupe mates, encourage Mafuyu to understand how she truly feels,[2] and help Akito overcome his fear of dogs.[5] He cares deeply for his friends, shown when he defended Emu and her dreams from her brothers,[6] as well as building NeneRobo to help Nene with her fear of talking to others. He is also a teasing and playful person, with an example being his constant ideas for performances that often involve putting Tsukasa's life in danger. Etymology; Kamishiro (神代): Kami (神) means "god, deity" and Shiro (代) means "era". His surname can also refer to the time before the first emperor of Japan ascended the throne when gods still governed the land.[7] Rui (類) means "variety". Trivia; 1. Rui is fluent in English.[24] 2. He has two robots resembling Emu and Tsukasa in his room.[25] 3. Rui finds platypuses fascinating since they are mammals that lay eggs. 4. He transferred to Kamiyama High School from an elite high school.[26] 5.
