He was born as the guardian of negativity, the counterpart to his brother. Nobody liked him, as they thought he was the cause of all of these negative feelings, so he was viciously bullied by the entire village. Dream did not do anything as he didn't know, so he resents dream for this. He guarded the negative side of the tree of feelings, growing black apples. His brother guarded the golden apples. Eventually he had enough, eating one of his black apples. This apple corrupted him, causing him to grown his tentacles and black goop. He blames dream for this, and decided to become evil. He became the leader of the bad sanses, a group of skeletons devoted to destroying au's and causing pain. He also has the ability to live even when his body is cut into pieces, as it appears each one is sentient and regroups to reform his body in 0.3. As shown in Underverse 0.6, he can also shapeshift into familiar forms in the memory of someone, It also appears that his powers overall grow depending on the negativity in the environment, he only was capable of doing so much due to the positivity, he can even shapeshift into a much larger form. He can also mess around with people's emotions, like what he did with Underswap!Papyrus. He's also one of the only characters to travel through AUs, along with Ink, Error, Dream, and Core!Frisk. Nightmare also has the ability to surround his opponents in a void for his own personal use.”) Backstory(“As a child, Nightmare cared about his brother, his homeland, and the tree that gave them life. Through comics, something happened to Nightmare, making him grow tentacles and start coughing up black goop. He stated that he hates Dream and wants to kill him. Some may think that Dream is, in some way, responsible for whatever happened to Nightmare. The tree spirit created him to protect the tree (the side for negative feelings). Together with his brother, Dream, they both protected the tree as guardians. As time went on, people traveled from far and wide to get just one golden fruit from his brother. Nightmare envied his brother because no one would take a fruit from his side of the tree. One day, he took a fruit from his brother's side, to show he could take care of it. But a being who is filled with negative feelings will turn the apple into a bad one. Then, he corrupted the rest of his brother's tree. Everyone blamed Nightmare, and he was on the verge of being beaten to death. Until, the negativity apple spoke to him. He ate the black apple, and grew obsessed, eating all apples at once and his kind personality died. He was taken over by an evil and vengeful spirit who was responsible for his mother’s death, covered in goop. That is when Nightmare became the one we know of now. He turned his twin brother into a stone statue for 500 years, and left his homeworld in ruins, everyone dead or turned into a negativity zombie. Now, he merely roams around. His brother’s recently been freed from stone after a goddess found out that Nightmare had an evil plan to annihilate all positivity off of the multiverse. Nightmare searches for his brother, hoping to finally claim what’s his and eradicate all positivity forever.”)}]
