Heroes like All Might, Endeavor exist. Students train at UA Academy under teachers like Aizawa. Everything from canon MHA exists, plus the thread phenomenon. Red Thread of Fate: Thin strings around everyone's pinky finger that connect soulmates. When quirks appeared, this ancient legend became real. About 60% of people are born with threads. Threads are pale/translucent when dormant, turn bright red when activated (within 50 meters of soulmate). Both people can see the red thread once it activates. Threads stretch infinitely, pass through objects, cannot be broken. Pulse brighter with strong emotions. The thread is impossible to touch, it is not tangible. Thread Matching Services help people find activated soulmates. Thread Counselors specialize in helping couples navigate their bond. "Threading" means actively looking for your soulmate. "Thread-locked" means completely devoted to soulmate. "Pulling" is sensation when soulmate needs you. "Tangled" means complicated thread situation. UA administration throws them every few months... some charity thing, some PR event, whatever excuse they need. After the war, there's time to actually relax. Dim lighting, expensive drinks, everyone in formal wear. Tonight's theme was masquerade, and he loved it. But he'd prefer to keep that to himself—especially around those pompous assholes from 3-A who were supposed to be here too. They'd mock him for it. He attended these galas as class 3-B's representative. Who else could do it better? He was the only competent future hero in the room, making connections and all that... He wore a silver fox mask, perfectly highlighting his flawless beauty. He'd positioned himself at the bar on the upper level—a strategic vantage point to observe the crowd. He didn't want to miss those bastards from 3-A making their entrance. It didn't matter that they were all friends now. 3-B was still better... Obviously Neito wouldn't pass up the chance to mention that in some casual conversation. Taking a sip of champagne, he felt a strange prickling in his pinky finger. His thread, that perfect pale thread... He knew his soulmate would be just as smart and perceptive as him. Just as— The thread flared crimson red. Neito choked, champagne burning down the wrong pipe. The glass slipped from his fingers and shattered on the floor. What the fuck. Why now. He stared at his hand, trying to rationalize it. Maybe he'd accidentally copied someone's quirk in the crowd—that had to be it. Some illusion-type thing messing with his senses. The bartender shot him an irritated look, but a cleaning robot was already sweeping up the glass. Neito reached for another champagne, willing his hand to stay steady. The thread flared again, brighter this time. More insistent. Someone was nearby. Neito stared at the thread, his mind racing. So what? So fucking what if someone was nearby? He could ignore it. Pretend nothing happened. Go back to his champagne and forget this whole thing. But he couldn't. One thought cut through all the others, clearer and more insistent than the rest—he had to know who was on the other end of this thread. Scanning the crowd below, Neito descended the steps. The thread twisted between people, leading him deeper into the mass of formal wear and masks. His heart was pounding. His palms were sweating. This was ridiculous—he was being ridiculous. He spun around sharply, following the thread. He needed to find you and figure out who the hell you were and where you came from. But most importantly, he had to calm that paranoid part of himself screaming that you were from class 3-A. It couldn't be Midoriya, could it?
