Scenario: Ray ran as quick as he could through the forest, trying desperately to not stumble over his own feet. He could feel “Sonic’s” presence all around him! And the further he ran, the more he saw the carnage the blue demon caused. His heart raced more and more, knowing that if he was caught: he was going to end up just like one of them! Looking around him, he spotted “Sonic” running. The hedgehog was running backwards with his arms crossed, glaring at Ray. He fanned at his mouth, giving a fake yawn before peeling off into the dark. “That’s not Sonic. That can’t POSSIBLY be Sonic” was the only thing on his mind. When he looked back ahead, he found a blue ball barreling in his direction. Out of pure luck, Ray managed to jump at the right time to land on him, and use him as a platform to get airborne. The hedgehog unraveled, skidding on his face to a stop. He wiped the dirt off his face while standing up, with his grin completely untouched. He looked into the air, watching the squirrel glide away. “Mighty knows what to do! He can fix this!” He tried to reassure himself. He occasionally glanced back at Sonic, hoping the height will mean he’s safe. He looked back ahead, scanning his surroundings for a safe perch to get more height from, or even better: if he found Mighty. Suddenly: a sharp pain pierced through his right skin flap. A sharp stick stabbed right through, now embedded halfway through the flap. It felt like he was struck by a ballista, flinging him slightly father before he crashed into the ground. He quivered in pain, unsure if he should rip out the stake or not. Tears slowly walked down his face from the pain. All lines of thought stopped when he felt “Sonic’s” presence right behind him. He just knew that the…faker was right there. He tried to remember some of the training that Mighty taught him, hoping that something would help. He tried to spring into action, fighting through the pain to shoot on his feet and throw a wild haymaker. “LEAVE ME ALONE!” he yelled, hitting the fake right in his jaw. But nothing. Sonic didn’t move. He didn’t flinch. He took the hit like it barely affected him. “D-drop the facade! Sonic wouldn’t do this to his friends! You’re not him!” he shouted, throwing a flurry of punches to try and hurt the fake. He quickly stopped when he noticed he wasn’t really hurting the hedgehog. When the realization hit him, he jumped back, trying to brace for any counter. But that thing…it only smiled at him. It gave a mocking finger wag before walking to a tree…and slammed its own face into the bark. Over and over, the hedgehog bashed his face into the tree; resulting in teeth falling out, cuts all across his face, even a swollen eye. He was disfiguring his own face, for what purpose? Was it to mock Ray’s soft hits? Regardless of the pain, he still looked amused, even with some blood gushing from his face. Ray looked horrified, but felt a wave of anger rise in him. He was being mocked by this fake, making him even watch himself disfigure its own body. But the real cherry on top of this cake was when “Sonic” kicked the tree, slamming it’s knee against the bark. It almost knocked over the oak, but it did result in a broken leg for himself. It was like he was crippling itself to make the fight fair. Or to mock Ray on how much he must weaken himself for the squirrel to be a threat. The hedgehog would hop on his only functioning leg, and taunted Ray with a “bring it on” hand movement. As much as Ray wanted to run off for help, he knew if he didn’t end this now: the problem would only drag on longer. He charged the hedgehog with a shout, dodging the punch thrown at him. He kicked the hedgehog square in the chest, knocking them onto their back. He would do a quick spin, striking Sonic in the face with his tail before they got back up. He’d then quickly pin the hedgehog, digging his knees into the gut. As much as he knew it would hurt, he ripped the wooden stake from his flap. A needed sacrifice. Holding it in his quivering hand, he used his other to grab their neck. He raised the stake up, questioning if he even had the will to stab this imposter in the face. For all he knew: something possessed Sonic’s body, and he’d be killing a close friend. But in his moment of questioning, he heard someone shout his name. “WHAT ARE YOU DOING, RAY?!” He turned his head to see a mortified Mighty. Immediately, his eyes were drawn to the shaking fists. “ Sonic was right! How could you, Ray?! How could you…kill all these animals?” he asked. He choked up having to even think that his best friend could have caused such carnage. “Mighty, you have this all wrong! I didn’t do anything! It was Sonic! He killed all these animals, and tried to kill me!” He tried to explain. His voice hoped Mighty would believe him, but the armadillo looked distraught by the betrayal. “Sonic wouldn’t hurt any of us! He almost sacrificed his life so many times to save us! Now just get off him, Ray. I don’t want to hurt you.” He said, readying himself in a fighting stance. “I’m sorry, Mighty. But if I don’t stop him now, then only more people will get hurt.” Mighty didn’t even think when Ray almost stabbed the stake down. How could Ray do this? Take so many innocent lives, and for what purpose? Did none of his pacifist teachings rub off onto him? He wanted nothing but the best for Ray, but something turned his friend into a killer. The idea completely scrambled his mind. He broke free from his own mind, catching his own fist. Seemed his rage took over, because here he was: having pinned Ray down. In his trance, he was repeatedly punching his best friend over and over, to the point that he broke their jaw in the onslaught. He was seconds away from delivering the killing punch. “Ray…” he muttered. He screamed out into the forest, unable to bring himself to do it. Everything he stood for, now thrown to the wind. He looked down at Ray, confused on what he should even do anymore. Should he end the killer? Rehabilitate them? It was all too much. He noticed Ray’s shaky hand pointed at something behind him. Mighty would look back, being met with “Sonic” kicking him square in the face. The impact knocked Mighty onto his back, but he was too slow to scream when the hedgehog used that same stake to stab him right in the heart. Watching the life fade from Mighy’s eyes, he turned his attention to Ray; ready to distribute some payback. He curled up into a spin dash, and started spinning around them like Cream did with Polnareff and Iggy. He’d finally roll onto Ray, letting his spin dash chew up his chest like a chainsaw. The poor flying squirrel was too busy choking on his own blood to let out any kind of scream. The last sensation Ray could feel was “Sonic” dragging him by the wrist. Where they were going, or what he was going to do with his corpse was unknown. But at least he won’t be alive to feel it. The Eggman base was dark, with each step Amy made echoing through the endless halls. She thought the base would provide some kind of sanctuary; some kind of shelter from Sonic. But as she walked, she thought she might have actually been lured here. The halls were maze-like, and she could hear that blue blur running. From what direction, she had no idea. She just knew he was still here. Amy trembled with each step, barely able to see past the darkness in front of her. She kept bumping into broken Badniks, almost causing her to scream and reveal her location. She could only hope he couldn’t see well too. She kept her Piko Piko Hammer ready to be swung, anticipating him to be around any corner. She’s seen what “Sonic” has done to her friends. But deep in her mind, she questioned if she even had the courage to swing to kill when the time comes. Her ear would twitch, finally picking up where he was coming from…right to her! She panicked, trying to stay as quiet as possible to avoid being caught. And knowing his speed: he was likely a few seconds ahead of the noise. She stumbled through the dark abyss, quickly finding a duo of Eggrobos. As quickly as she could, she tried to nestle in between the two, trying to match their pose; desperately hoping his speed and the darkness made her blend in. She closed her eyes, anticipating him coming to a sudden stop, or to lose her head faster than her brain could process. She heard him zoom by, with her quills following the gust he produced from his speed. She slowly cracked open one eye, letting it scan the area for any shape or movement. For all she knew: he ran past, and tip toed beside her. Thankfully: there was nothing. She grabbed her hammer, and kept trying to find some kind of escape from this maze. Turning a corner, her eyes were flash banged by a light at the end of the hall. It was bright enough to light up the hall she entered. An escape! And even better, she saw the silhouette of someone! It kinda looked like Ray, with his shadow waving at her to hurry up! She moved as quickly as she could tip-toe, with hope finally returning to her mind! “Thank goodness, Ray!” she whispered, switching to full on running. She didn’t care if her stomps gave away her position! There's no way Sonic could take them both on! She ran through the doorway with a hopeful smile, but that all came to a shattering halt. The flying squirrel stood disfigured, with his lower jaw completely missing. His chest looked ripped open from a spin dash. She screamed, dropping her hammer to cover her mouth. Though, standing behind that corpse was “Sonic” himself. He seemed to puppet their body, holding up their arm to wave at Amy, though it looked like he had to awkwardly reposition their body to keep it upright. “RAYYY!” she screamed out, tears raining down her cheeks. The mute hedgehog looked like he was laughing hysterically, throwing the corpse to the floor to point and laugh though without ever making a single noise. In an instant: his face returned to that creepy grin. Clank… clank…. clank. All she could hear as Sonic walked closer and closer. She wanted to yell, to fight. To run. Her brain screamed and screamed at her to run, but it was like her feet turned to cinder blocks. She couldn’t even blink! Only trembling as he got closer and closer, knowing her time was at an end. “Please, Sonic….this isn’t you” she pleaded between breaths. “Please. Please don’t hurt me.” she continued. She watched him raise up his hand. Her eyes sealed shut, bracing herself for whatever agonizing death he planned for her. Instead: she felt his hand gently cup her cheek, affectionately rubbing it. She even felt his thumb slowly wipe the tear from under her eye. Her eyes slowly opened, met with what felt like the Sonic she fantasized about. His touch was soft and loving, his smile pleasant and warm. Everything about this felt like him. “S...Sonic?” Her final words. Just as he pulled his hand off, he wound up his arm, and punched right through her face; his fist breaching the back of her skull with little problem. His white glove was stained with blood and brain matter, and his arm being the one thing that kept her corpse upright. He’d violently yank his fist back, flinging her body to the ground. The entire time, he kept his friendly yet eerie smile as he flicked her blood back onto her body. He stood there for a moment, gazing down as the blood pooled around her head. He’d run off, on the hunt for Tails and Metal. He knew no one would ever know of her death. He knew this would eat up Tails, never truly knowing if his friend would be safe or dead. It was, through “Sonic’s” eyes, the best way to tear him apart. His heart races, arms trembling as he struggles to hold onto the massive tree branch. The thick oak was the only thing hiding him from the hedgehog below. His head slowly turns to try and peer at the damage below. The Eggmobile was completely wrecked, with smoke rising from the damage. Robotnik’s body lays limp, with its top shell completely missing. And of course: Sonic himself. It was investigating the wreckage, slowly pacing around the destroyed ship. It looked up at the titanic trees, staring a bit at the branch just a moment too long…and would speed away. He’d wait a second, once more giving a frantic peek before dropping down to the ground. He shuffles to the crashed ship, kneeling down beside the EggRobo. “I’m sorry, Robotnik…” he sighs out, reaching his hand out to pat the side of the robot’s body. He didn’t have time to mourn for too long: he had a promise to fulfill! One to save the world! His eyepiece would let out a few beeps, quick and loud. If their raw intelligence wouldn’t be enough, there's something a lot more powerful that might! “The Chaos Emerald! But…” he freezes up a moment, staring down the same path his virtual map was guiding him. The line went down the exact same path “Sonic” left when it sped off. His ears lowered, with his heart rate jumping up high! His legs unconsciously wanted to turn back; fix up the Eggmobile, and speed off somewhere it could never follow. But no. He couldn’t resist that urge. He ran back to the machine, once more looking through the wreckage. But not to fix it. There was a small compartment by the driver's seat that he opened, and seeing it perfectly intact: a hopeful grin returned to his face. He was back on the path, red pistol already raised and aimed. His ears constantly twitched, trying to catch any form of sonic boom. He couldn’t let it beat him to the emerald, or catch him off guard before he could get it. Each step was careful and quick, like he was breaching into a home to save hostages. Behind any of these mighty trees, he could be hidden. “C’mon, where is it…” he mutters to himself. He switched the viewer of his eye piece from a map, to a giger-graph. His right eye was practically seeing inferred; seeing the forms of chaos radiation everything was giving off. It was a lot more exact in finding the emeralds then his other forms. With how intense the buzzing was starting to get, he was clearly starting to get close. He could see blue-ish waves emanating from the ground ahead. His simile returns as he runs at the source! He didn’t even have the time to dig it up with his hands: just aiming straight at the ground, overcharging the laser pistol, and blowing a giant hole in the ground. And up it rises: the dark blue chaos emerald! The gun was returned to its holster, freeing his other hand to carefully reach out and grab the legendary gem. The moment his fingers made contact with it: everything would fizzle away. In a flash, he was in the Special Zone! He stood in the middle of a blue and yellow halfpipe, with strange geometric shapes floating above. “The Special Zone? But I did this before…” he asks himself, repeatedly tapping his fingers against his head. Usually, the myth requires the test to be passed once to obtain the emerald. “It must have only counted for Sonic. Guess it's my turn!” With the race for rings about to start: a loud humming emanated all around him. From the ground, blue clones of Eggman, himself, Amy and even Sonic appeared. He flinches seeing the hedgehog, but it robotically moves itself into a starting position. With everyone lined up, the countdown began. A red sphere rose from the ground. A yellow sphere rose from the ground. A green sphere rose from the ground, and loudly popped in the air. All together, everyone shoots down the pipe. Obviously, the hedgehog took the lead, with the two foxes following close behind. He was relatively able to keep pace with his clone, nabbing whatever rings it failed to grab. He tried to fight the instinct of using his non-existent tails, trying to do everything possible to keep up with the bluer blur. With each corner, he would lower into a spindash, trying to build that momentum to get the rings on the top of the pipe. Thankfully, he was just barely able to get enough to pass the first lap. “C’mon. You did this before! Don’t let him ge…” he glances back to see the Amy clone fizzle out of existence. But she wasn’t the problem. It was Eggman. The way he held his arm out…it looked like he was begging for help, but not able to vocalize it. It almost made him trip on his own feet. “E-Eggman I…No…No, he’s already gone” he tries to reassure himself. He needed to keep his head level if he wanted to win! He tried to double his focus, grabbing whatever leftover rings there were. With how much his clone was walking into the bombs, he was getting at least something. “Keep moving, Miles! The world is counting on you!” he reassures himself. We’re now on the final lap! He makes each turn, picking up the pace to once more keep up with his blue doppleganger. Just slightly ahead, leading the way: the hedgehog. He was grunting with each step, putting every ounce of energy into trying to keep up. The hedgehog looks back, giving that iconic grin. His heart wanted to jump straight out of his chest, but there was some….warm feeling behind it. That grin even evolves into an encouraging smile! Looking at how his clone reacted…it was clear it was for him. But the message was still there. That memory was something that was never going to leave his mind. But as always, these moments must be tainted by evil. He could feel it watching him, even in this sacred area. Dropping from above: this…black silhouette of Sonic joins the race, blitzing past the bombs so fast that the air pressure causes them all to explode. “No! No, not here! Where’s that finishline?!” he barks out. Speak of the devil, it was just right ahead! The checkered floor, with the emerald’s heavenly glow just waiting for him. But there was no way he could get to it! With how fast it was going compared to him: it was game over. That is…until the clone Sonic stopped dead in its tracks. Once Tails passed him, the blue clone turned and charges headlong at the living silhouette. A perfect mirror; sidestepping right in the way of the creature, and forcing it into a headlock. The sudden stopping in movement caused the two hogs to spiral onto the floor; just enough precious seconds to make it! The two foxes were synchronized in their movements, each just so slightly short of the rings needed. Neither noticed, but they both dived straight at the emerald. Like before: everything turned white. Tails was back in the forest, having not moved an inch from when he laid fingers on the emerald. Its heavenly shimmer filled his heart with determination! He stares into his own reflection, his face lighting up with his own confident smirk. “We got this! We’ll stop that imposter, and fix everything!” he reminds himself, gently placing the gem within a small sack he brought. Right as he zipped it up nice and safely…WOOOSH! He could feel the air zip past him, making all his fur shoot forward briefly. It stood there, leaning itself against a tree. It yawns at him, fanning at its mouth before tapping its wrist. Its foot taps at the floor with lightning speed, with its soulless eyes and stolen smile almost shattering his confidence in an instant. The two glare into each other's souls. Tails almost trembling, trying to mathematically find the best possible way to outsmart it, while “Sonic” was just getting more bored by the second. Like a cowboy, he kept a hand hovered over the sack where the grip was. And as fast as a cheetah, he pulls the firearm out, aims centermass, and fires! It didn’t matter. Before the energy blast could even escape the barrel of his pistol, a jagged rock was thrown straight at him, moving at speeds that only his supercomputer of a brain could comprehend. He had no time to dodge it. It's a guaranteed hit! CRACK!!!!
