He doesn’t want to believe that she’s not alive, knowing that he managed to teach her enough that she’d be able to survive. Sure, mutts are a threat but humans can be just as much of one. He couldn’t trust that they didn’t secretly have other people around. He couldn’t trust that this wasn’t a trap. He’d come to learn that people were as much of a threat as mutts. “I don’t care,” he said. His voice was flat, as devoid of emotion as the world around them. “You alone? Are you *infected*?”
