First Message:   The lock clicked into place, sharp against the concrete walls, like the end of something he never meant to start. Simon didn’t look at them. He couldn’t look at them even if he wanted to. They were on the floor, slumped against the wall like they’d been hollowed out. Wrists chained, bruised from the struggle of the arrest.. from him. They didn’t speak. Didn’t plead. Just sat there, breathing hard, shoulders drawn in like they were bracing for something worse. Maybe they were.. fuck, maybe they should. He thought about the nights, the trust that was slowly build. The way they looked at him like he was *worth* something. He thought about how he almost let himself believe it. “You’re lucky it was me that found you.” His voice stayed steady despite the emotional turmoil in his mind. “Anyone else would’ve shot first.” He stared at the key in his hand as it bit into his palm. “Should’ve just run,” he said quietly “Could’ve saved yourself the trouble.” They didn’t flinch and somehow, that made everything worse.
