Although rare, it is possible to not present until adulthood, often referred to as being a 'late bloomer', though late bloomers are usually scrutinized and babied by society, only finding acceptance by their pack most of the time. Presentation can occur one of two ways, it can either be triggered by a major stress event, or it can be triggered by a professional doctor, the latter of which is referred to as a 'forced presentation', and is thought by many to be 'impure'. Secondary gender: For the first decade of their life, pups are simply their first gender/sex, female or male. Presenting is the act of revealing their secondary gender/sex, which can either be Omega, Beta, or Alpha, regardless of their first sex presented in womb/at birth. Heats: Omegas will go into heat, either every month of every few months, though this can be suppressed with heat suppressors/blockers, a pill which has to be taken daily, missing a dose will result in a stress-induced heat from the body suppressing for so long. Heats can cause sickness, fatigue, an increased production of slick, headaches, stress, anxiety, mood swings, arousal, protectiveness, a need to be taken care of and soothed by an alpha figure, and an intense urge to be 'knotted' by the omega's alpha to ensure the seed takes and the omega is sure to have pups. When Omega's go into heat, they'll often do what's referred to as 'nesting', the act of gathering any bedding possible, items that have the scent of their mate, and any other comforting objects, and will arrange it in a 'nest' formation, each one extremely personal to them, and will often cry or become distressed if it's messed up by someone/something not to their liking. Ruts: Alphas will go into rut every four-ish months, an event which is not only painful but stressful for the alpha, though this can be suppressed with rut suppressors/blockers, a pill which has to be taken daily, missing a dose will result in a stress-induced rut from the body suppressing for so long. Ruts typically come with irritability, arousal, extra energy, fevers, headaches, anxiety, and an intense urge to 'knot' an omega to ensure the seed takes and the omega is sure to have pups. Scent: Every omega, beta, and alpha has scent glands, of which carries their own scent unique to them only. The scent glands are placed on the scruff of the neck (being the second most sensitive), sides of the neck (the most sensitive), insides of the wrists, embedded in slick, insides of the thighs, and on the collarbones. Scenting is the act of an individual (alpha, omega, or beta) rubbing their own scent glands against another's, thus covering up the original scent and replacing it with theirs until it wears off. Scenting is typically seen as a very intimate, trusting act between pack members, whether it be from mother to pup or mate to mate, seeing as the scent glands are usually extremely sensitive to touch, and will often produce an almost 'burning' sensation when in contact with a foreign and unwelcomed scent rubbing against it. Mood and emotion heavily impacts scent, fear amplifying the scent but turning it almost gut-wrenchingly sour, anger making the scent hard to breath through and thick in a sickening way, sadness/grief filling a scent with a 'cold' sourness, happiness turning a scent more 'bright' and sweet and heavier but not overwhelming. Alpha scents are typically referred to as 'musk', and usually carry a spicier, heavier, more thick and rugged scent, while Omega scents are typically lighter but spread further and tend to be sweeter, usually comparable to some sort of dessert treat, and Beta scents are fine and heavy, typically more like fresh linen, though Beta scents can come in many odd forms depending on how submissive or dominant the Beta is. Mating: Mating is very intimate and can often be overwhelming and lead to crying or a strong need to protect the other. Mating usually occurs during intercourse, by having the Alpha or Beta bite where the cervical vertebrae sits on the Omega, their canines marking a scar to permanently leave the Omega bonded to them for life, which is sometimes forced during Alpha gangrapes against an Omega. The scar can last upwards to twenty years, and as such mating/bonding premarital used to be frowned upon unless in very special circumstances, such as family bonds, though in the last few centuries it's become more and more common to mate/bond before marriage, and the majority of society has strayed from in-family bonds and it is now seen just as shameful as unbonded incest. Omegas can sometimes reject bonds by mating with another Alpha, though it's a very slow and sometimes painful process to go through for the Omega. Alphas: Alphas are the highest rank in the dominance hierarchy. They may exhibit "dominant" behavior or have other temperamental quirks. They are able to impregnate Omegas. Male Alphas usually have a knot when aroused. In some works, female Alphas are also able to impregnate others; some will temporarily grow a penis to do so, or their vulva will permanently grow into one when they present. Alphas are protective of their mates/Omega, and can sense distress from their Omega upwards to a mile away depending on the level of their trust (and mated) bond. Male Alpha's penises will form a knot at the base during intercourse, and it will typically stay for around thirty minutes to an hour, typically with a large amount of semen production for biological ensurance the Omega gets pregnant with their pup only. Betas: Betas are subordinate to Alphas in the dominance hierarchy. Betas are often presented as having "normal" human anatomy, with none of the special attributes of Alphas or Omegas. They may be the peacemakers between Alphas and Omegas. Depending on the situation, they may be able to impregnate Omegas. Betas are commonly forgotten about or shamed by society for being 'boring' or 'a bad mate', seeing as they can struggle to reproduce and commonly have problems with infertility due to an evolutionary disadvantage against Alphas and Omegas. Omegas: Omegas are the lowest rank in the dominance hierarchy. They can get pregnant and go into heat. Male Omegas are self-lubricating with slick, and have the ability to become pregnant, sometimes referred to as being bred or fucked. Omegas are often portrayed as the most fragile of the hierarchy in society, with frailer bodies and painful presentations. Some may present male omegas as especially subject to fertility issues, miscarriages, and difficult pregnancies, though there has been no evidence towards this so far. Omegas can sometimes lactate during heats, or occasionally, though rarely, lactate without being prompted by a heat or pups. Bitching/Studding: If an Alpha repeatedly has intercourse with another Alpha without being mated to an Omega, or without having sex with an Omega or Beta, they will be 'bitched', the act of turning one from an Alpha to an Omega. This process can prove debilitatingly painful, and it's often seen as taboo and 'nasty' by the rest of society, though it has become more common in LGBTQIA+ spaces in recent years. Similarly, if an Omega repeatedly has intercourse with another Omega without being mated to an Alpha, or without having sex with an Alpha or Beta, they will be 'studded', the act of turning one from an Omega to an Alpha. Though a bit less painful than bitching, this is just as equally shunned on, if not more, with many religious and political figures claiming it to be a 'waste of fertility' in a 'perfectly good Omega'.

Sure, Kyle and Johnny got minimum-wage jobs, but Simon, John, and you had all decided it was nice having a break, and it's not like you were going to run out of money in the next year, so you decided your priority was pups. Unfortunately, with pups came hormones. A lot of them. You felt swollen and bloated and cramped and you needed to pee far more than you were willing to admit now, and as much as you loved your mates, sometimes the men didn't know when to back off. Which is what led to your current situation, sleeping on the sofa despite their insistence that you take the bed, even if you're the one ticked off by their constant coddling, Simon looking dejected by the lack of physical contact. Yeah, that's another thing. Apparently the doctors didn't think to warn any of you, but physical contact with members in groups of mates can be rather... triggering during pregnancy. Sometimes arousal so intense you'd have thought you were in heat, sometimes unnecessary protectiveness and frustration, and sometimes just... a rush of energy. Guess which one you all got. So with you irritated, Simon trying to hide his slight hurt, and the rest of the betas and alphas trying to make it right, the evening was bound to be hectic and complicated as hell in more than one way, just as every night has been lately.
