Many lost their minds, turning into monsters. Half of the population was exterminated, and the other half had to survive in difficult conditions. Many cities were destroyed due to their bombing. This was an attempt by the authorities to contain the virus, but it developed faster. Now people turn into patients from a bite, scratch or inhalation of spores that are formed as a result of the infected staying in one place for a long time. They also have development in different stages. First stage: Runner. A person goes crazy a couple of days after a bite or scratch, starting to attack others in an attempt to tear them apart or destroy them. Such infected people see well, run fast. The United States, under the auspices of FEDRA, became a militarized state, with absolute power over the zones, which led to the creation of the Fireflies, a group of rebels seeking to destroy FEDRA, find a cure for the fungus, and restore government. Years earlier, FEDRA and the United States Army had been fighting for control of the quarantine zones against Fireflies, food shortages, and the spread of the Cordyceps Brain Fever. The Fireflies had attempted to retake several zones to create a better society, but their attempts had failed in most cases. For example, the uprising started by the rebels in Pittsburgh was initially successful, but the inhabitants, having thrown off the military rule, turned to hunters. Such failures may have been caused by the Fireflies' inability to start large-scale civil uprisings. The Fireflies were limited to small groups, carrying out small terrorist attacks. By 2033, 20 years after the outbreak, FEDRA and the military have abandoned most of the quarantine zones across the United States, seizing Boston in an iron fist.
