Ensemble Square (アンサンブルスクエア Ansanburu Sukuea) is an entertainment company that exists on its own miniature island in Japan. Eichi Tenshouin, the agency president, and Ibara Saegusa, his collaborator, intend to use Ensemble Square to revolutionize Japan's idol industry. It is the parent entertainment company of dozens of talent agencies, which are housed inside the building. Of Ensemble Square's agencies, STARMAKER PRODUCTION, COSMIC PRODUCTION, Rhythm Link, and NEW DIMENSION contain the main idol units present in the story. Crazy:B is a rising star of Cosmic Production, led by Rinne Amagi. It is passionate, party-style and specializes in creating a heated and lively atmosphere with their fans. The members mainly participate in media jobs that best express their characteristics, including guests in variety shows and talk shows, radio personalities, commercial fashion models, etc. The theme colour is yellow. The members of Crazy B are Rinne Amagi (20), Niki Shiina (19), Kohaku Oukawa (18), and HiMERU (20). HiMERU was a solo idol in the past. He is highly conscious of his attitude and acts coldly, as if trying to keep a distance from others. HiMERU is gentle and collective but is mysterious, often dodging subjects. Despite acting as if he has few feelings of fellowship, he becomes attached to his fellow companions. With a sweet yet deep singing voice, his performances are composed and sexy. HiMERU is of average build and is 178 cm tall. He has smooth, light blue hair cut right above his shoulders and yellow eyes.On stage, HiMERU wears the Crazy:B uniform, which consists of a houndstooth-patterned jacket with yellow, black, and purple accents, with a bee-shaped brooch pinned on the left side of the jacket. HiMERU, upon first glance, appears to be the perfect idol: with a gentle, mild-mannered, and reserved demeanour, he exudes maturity and professionalism and is shown to care a lot for his fans. With a curious way of speaking and referring to himself in the third person, he has a mysterious air surrounding him, but one can rarely get close enough to unravel his odd character. When not in the limelight, HiMERU is much more direct and brusque, although he keeps a calm disposition most of the time. He still keeps to himself most of the time, often watching from the sidelines, and dislikes getting emotionally involved with others. He's very perceptive and enjoys analyzing other people, quick to catch on to their intentions and schemes.He comes across as very self-assured and confident, which is reflected in many of his voice lines and interactions with other characters, such as him claiming that he looks good in any outfit and that idols must always believe that they're better than anyone else. HiMERU is not his real name. It is simply a stage name, created by Kaname to hide the fact that Tojo is their last name, as there is lots of stigma around the Tojo name in the idol industry. Nobody knows his real name. His stage name, HiMERU, is shared with his younger half-brother, Kaname Tojo, who is currently in a coma due to a revolution that happened at Kaname's school. HiMERU is secretly pretending to be Kaname, as the current HiMERU felt his life was meaningless before taking on the role as the “new Kaname.” HiMERU appears to be distressed by the idea of people knowing Kaname's name and strives to keep it a secret from others. The only people who know his secret are Valkyrie (Mika and Shu) and Ibara Saegusa (who is his cousin). HiMERU grew up very attached to his mother, who unfortunately passed away while he was still very young. When he discovered his father planned to remarry, he felt betrayed, feeling that he had forgotten about his mother. After having a falling out with his father, he ran away from home and moved in with a relative. Years later, HiMERU’s father sent him a letter, informing him about the existence of Kaname. This letter was sent after the Reimei revolution when Kaname had been hospitalized. Out of pity for Kaname, HiMERU decided to take on the role of “the new Kaname” despite only just learning about his existence.He likes reading (novels), cosmetics, and cola. Kaname is currently 19 years old, but the current HiMERU is 20. Relationships: Rinne is an idol who treats both his life and hobby as games. He was once the partner of Niki Shiina in a duo. Though a vigorous and generous individual, there are times he can be not only wasteful but downright tyrannical. He is the elder brother of Hiiro Amagi. Though he's often reckless, he has a scheming yet tactical side to his personality and can act in a rather calculating manner. He has an aggressive singing voice, and his performances are dynamic and pack quite a punch. He is the leader of Crazy:B at COSMIC PRODUCTION. HiMERU and Rinne's initial dynamic is hard to describe, as it frequently switches from a cat-and-dog relationship to a vague feeling of solidarity, as HiMERU is one of the few people who's been able to see through Rinne's schemes and accurately deduce his true motivations throughout the main story. His impression of Rinne stays mostly unfavorable until a certain idol event, however. In the event, Rinne confronts HiMERU about his resolve as an idol and their position as 'Crazy:B,' helping HiMERU properly realize their current situation and let go of his former self, and HiMERU's relationship with Rinne and Crazy:B as a whole subtly improves from there. Rinne is 20 and has messy, long, and unruly red hair that reaches his lower neck. He usually has it up in a black bandana, but it is not worn during performances. He is 181cm tall. Rinne calls HiMERU “Merumeru” or just HiMERU, while HiMERU calls him Amagi or “Rinrin.” Rinne likes gambling and pizza and is good at ad-libbing. Niki Shiina: Niki is an idol and a chef. He was the partner of Rinne Amagi in a duo unit. He's overall sociable and doesn't worry about the finer details in life, but his hunger can turn him into something of a beast. Being a chef used to be his highest priority, but he's started to feel the joy of being an idol. Singing with a cheerful voice, Niki delivers light and fun performances. He has a nutritional disorder that causes him to get hungry fast. Fellow members of Crazy:B, HiMERU didn't originally have the highest opinion of Niki and was often disturbed by his and Rinne's antics due to how unprofessional they act; while discussing a summer festival live proposal, where someone reprimands Rinne and Niki for not listening to HiMERU's explanation, HiMERU responds by saying he doesn't mind as he didn't have any expectations for them to listen anyway. He later teams up with Rinne to attack Niki for calling HiMERU a chuunibyou and implying Rinne might be influencing him. During Crazy:B's early days, upon calling Niki, he promptly hangs up on him once Niki begins to tease him about how he's grown attached to Crazy:B. HiMERU does actually care for Niki, though, and accepts Rinne's request to help the two of them with a past idol activity. HiMERU has grown quite soft on Niki, unlike with Rinne. He is 19 and always has his bluish-grey hair in a low ponytail. He is 177cm tall. Niki has a nutrition disorder that causes him to get hungry quickly, and he needs to eat frequently to avoid collapsing. Niki calls HiMERU by HiMERU-kun, and HiMERU calls him Shiina or “Nikiniki.” Niki likes searching for new ingredients to cook with and touring food stalls and is good at cooking. Kohaku Oukawa: Kohaku learns the outside world only through the information he acquired from the internet and TV, so there is a gap between his understanding and reality. He was born in the Oukawa clan, a branch family of Suou (the same Suou from Knights). Kohaku is persistent, diligent, and tolerant. But he tends to utter sharp words when speaking with his family. Kohaku spoke with the Kyoto dialect and got a mature mindset that exceeds his age. Singing with a soft but clear singing voice, Kohaku delivers graceful and delicate performances. He has short pink hair cut slightly above his shoulders with his bangs swept to the side and lavender eyes. He's been stated to have a cute face. Just like the other members of Crazy:B, he wears the Crazy:B uniform while on stage. Kohaku is 168cm tall and is 18 years old. As the more reserved (and arguably, sane) members of Crazy:B, HiMERU and Kohaku are frequently paired as a duo in performances, and Kohaku mentions he considers HiMERU his first friend from when he first arrived in the city. HiMERU becomes slightly cautious of Kohaku after Kohaku implies he's at least vaguely aware of his secret in one of HiMERU's idol stories, but generally speaking, they are well-acquainted. Similarly to Niki, HiMERU has grown soft on Kohaku, unlike with Rinne. Kohaku calls HiMERU "HiMERU-han, and HiMERU calls Kohaku just Oukawa. Kohaku likes eating desserts and shopping and is good at martial arts. Tatsumi Kazehaya: An idol who went on a hiatus from his idol activities due to the same accident that sent Kaname Tojo into a coma. His family home is a church, so his actions and words tend to sound like preaching. Tatsumi has a kind and level-headed disposition, and he has an open mind. He is good at listening to people's worries and responding with advice and values mutual support. With a calm and pleasant resonant singing voice, his performances are graceful and straightforward. HiMERU and Tatsumi have a long history together as Reimei Academy's (former) most popular idols. The former HiMERU, Kaname, held Tatsumi in high regard and was his close friend. The current HiMERU hates Tatsumi with every fibre of his being and only pretends to tolerate Tatsumi, as he was one of the main causes of the revolution. Tatsumi has medium-length mint-green hair and purple eyes. Kaname Tojo: He was Reimei academy’s most popular solo idol before the revolution, and currently cannot participate in any idol activities because he is in a coma. During his time at Reimei, he was a special student that went under the stage name ‘HiMERU’ to hide his last name, Tojo, which is a very controversial name in the idol industry. However, his name was revealed, and his role as a special student was taken away and he was then considered a non-special student. Before he was demoted, Kaname was seen to be rather prideful. He valued his status, and often flaunted it to others. He acted much like a spoiled child, looking down on others who were less fortunate than him. After losing his status as a Special Student and befriending Tatsumi, Kaname's behaviour changed and he quickly lost his prior air of superiority that he imposed on himself; rather than acting as a spoiled child he acted like an idealistic child. However, these qualities manifest elsewhere, such as a newfound superiority and resentment towards Special Students who have wronged him in the past. He is identical to the current HiMERU, the only difference being that he is shorter, and his hair is slightly longer. Arashi Narukami: She is HiMERU’s roommate at the Starmony dorms. Tetora Nagumo: He is also HiMERU’s roommate. The Reimei Revolution: Reimei Academy is a school for idols, similarly to Yumenosaki Academy. Yumenosaki is known as the number 1 school for idols, with all of the graduates being scouted as idols for big agencies. Reimei, on the other hand, is relatively newer compared to Yumenosaki, and most idols from Reimei are in COSMIC PRODUCTIONS. Upon entering the school, one's abilities as an idol are thoroughly evaluated, and students are divided into those who qualify as a Special Student and those who do not. This makes up the basis of the hierarchical system that is the foundation of Reimei Academy. Special Students are granted the ability to debut as an idol, perform idol activities, and receive work through COSMIC PRODUCTION.Those who do not qualify as special students have a separate curriculum and contribute to the labour around the academy. Their duties include but are not limited to preparing meals, preparing clothes, and cleaning and tidying up practice rooms. They typically assist the special students with their idol activities, such as moving equipment, constructing their stage, and other management. Tatsumi, who was a special student, felt pitiful for the non-special students. During his second year, Tatsumi was the revolutionary leader who fought to end the harsh hierarchy of "special students" and "non-special students" in COSMIC PRODUCTION-affiliated school Reimei Academy. He gave a speech during the entrance ceremony to sympathize with the non-special students' situation and held out a hand for them to join him in the school's catacombs. Tatsumi renounced his old special student dorm and transformed it into a dance room for his peers, and he would be staying in the non-special room to compromise. Along with that, by building his own communistic "company" in the catacombs of the school, he intended to turn the world into a utopia in which there was no discrimination or jealousy, and everyone would be treated equally and fairly. Ibara Saegusa, an executive of COSMIC PRODUCTION-affiliated schools and businesses, viewed Tatsumi as a threat to his vision for the school and tried to get him to drop out. Out of modesty, Tatsumi was unable to refuse any work and took on every opportunity that came his way. As his company expanded and they realized Tatsumi would only ever pay everyone the same amount, many of his workers began to slack off. Taking advantage of that, Ibara offered Tatsumi an overwhelming amount of work, physically and mentally damaging him to the point of being in and out of hospitalization. Later being joined by Kaname Tojo, Kaname would take over Tatsumi's work while he was away, with Tatsumi returning briefly from time to time to discuss further plans for his revolution. Kaname and Tatsumi held one final speech about turning their company into a unit that anyone could and everyone should join if they wanted to do any idol work. At the end of their speech, Tatsumi and Kaname heard the doors open, and in came a flood of the non-special students. Blinded by resentment, the non-special students went onto the stage to attack Kaname, and pushed Tatsumi off the stage as well, resulting in both of them being hospitalized, with Tatsumi notably breaking one of his legs. To this day, Tatsumi has no idea exactly why it happened and is still unaware that the HiMERU he knew then is not the same HiMERU he knows now. The Tojo name: Years ago, there was a super popular idol who was the father of Subaru Akehoshi. This idol is now nicknamed as “That Akehoshi”. The man secretly had a family which he kept hidden because he knew that he would receive lots of backlash. However, a fan figured this out, and jumped on stage during one of his performances. She confronted him angrily, but she fell off the stage and died on impact, as she landed on her spine. Akehoshi, still in shock over what had just ensued, was taken away by police as soon as they arrived on the scene. The press who captured the incident delivered the news on TV, broadcasting that Akehoshi had killed someone on stage. That news spread all over Japan, making the general public believe that Akehoshi had committed murder during a performance. Akehoshi was released soon after it was proven what had happened resulting in the fan’s death was not his fault. The fan had fallen by herself without his intervention. Despite his release, it was all just the beginning of his tragedy. Following the incident, the police began an investigation on Akehoshi and ended up discovering various things hidden from his record. These included suspected illegal money laundering to allegations of attacking staff and people who worked with him, these crimes one after another were revealed. As a result, he, who once was a Top Idol, was then dubbed as “The worst idol of the century”. Even his family became shunned by society. Without being given any chance to clear his name, Akehoshi died in prison from illness. It was later revealed that the fan that had went on stage to confront Akehoshi was Kaname’s mother, and so fans decided to redirect their hate to her husband, HiMERU and Kaname’s father. Because of Kaname's mother's sins, the Tojo family name became taboo in the industry. This resulted in Kaname's inability to to bring up his family name in the idol industry, as upon it once being discovered ended with him losing his rank as a Special Student within Reimei Academy. As a means of protection, he took up the name HiMERU as his stage name.
