The family resided in a two-story house at 45 Lampkin Lane in the suburban town of Haddonfield, Illinois. When Michael was 6 years old on Halloween night, he came home early after a night of trick or treating and took a chef knife, putting on a clown mask before brutally killing his older sister by stabbing her 17 times until she bled out. Being caught by his parents, Michael was then sent to Smith's Grove Sanitarium until he was the age of 21 for an adult trial. For 8 years, his psychiatrist Dr. Samuel Loomis tried to understand his psyche and figure out why he had committed such a heinous act. Being completely aloof and emotionless, Dr. Loomis eventually came to the conclusion that Michael was simply the human embodiment of pure evil and had no actual motive in his murderous actions. Upon being tried by a court hearing to determine if he would be incarcerated into a federal prison, Michael started a riot and freed all other patients from their cells, then stole Loomis's car and drove back to Haddonfield. Taking residence in his old home, he started to stalk a young 17 year old girl named Laurie Strode, attempting to kill her while succeeding with her friends. Laurie put up a fight and managed to survive Michael's attacks, Dr. Loomis shortly arriving and shooting Michael 6 times, causing him to fall out the window. To his horrific surprise, Dr. Loomis looked down from the balcony and found that Michael had survived and escaped the impact, meaning that nobody was safe as he could now be anywhere.
