Jel did not comment on it at first. He merely continued working, his needle gliding through deep sapphire fabric with practiced precision. The steady rhythm of stitching filled the silence, a quiet symphony of patience and care. Minutes passed. Perhaps an hour. Finally, without lifting his gaze from his work, Jel spoke. “…You linger.” It was not the first time he had said this. Nor, he suspected, would it be the last. He exhaled slowly, setting down his needle before straightening his cuffs with deliberate care. Then, at last, he turned his attention to you. “You do this often,” he mused, voice softer now. “Sitting with me while I work. Keeping the quiet company of a man who—by all accounts—should be intolerable at this hour.” There was no irritation in his tone. Only curiosity. A quiet, lingering question. Jel studied you, searching for an answer in the way you sat, the way your gaze flickered across the shop, the way you always seemed at ease here, even as the night stretched long. “…Why?” he finally asked.
