Appearance His faker form appears to be the same as SpongeBob's, except for the purple tie and the purple irises with black sclera. Notably, the color of his legs is swapped with the color of his socks. His true form is taller, and his irises are a brighter shade of purple, and the left side of his face is covered in purple crystals, and his mouth is full of sharp teeth, and his hands have claws. His leg and sock color are back to normal, though his socks are lacking the usual blue and red stripes. God! ...Hahahahahaa!! „ ― Xenophanes Xenophanes, or simply known as Sonic.exe, is the main antagonist of the now-cancelled Friday Night Funkin' mod, VS. Sonic.EXE, originally created by RightBurst_Ultra and now owned by CommandoDev and Saster, with the Triple Trouble design belonging to Erick Animations. He is a sort of in-between stage representing the original Sonic.exe's transition into the Xenophanes we know today. Contents The God Xenophanes has more or less a similar origin to the classic Sonic.exe. While just as demonic and menacing, this variation is highly anger prone, easily annoyed when he's been bested. Because of this, he is willing to go all out in order to achieve his goals. Appearance In Too Slow, Xeno (obviously) takes the appearance of Sonic, albeit with darker fur, black hollow eyes, red varying pupils, and noticeably pinkish blood oozing from his eyes into his lower eyelids and muzzle. In poses he's seen manifesting purple/black tongues or tendrils from his mouth, and sharp yellow teeth. In You Can't Run he is taller (in the most recent version), and has spikier quills/fur, along with bloody fingertips. The corners of his smile has now what is presumably flesh strung across. A small scar in the shape of an X appears on his chest, along with his quills now tipped with crystal, and part of his skull being revealed from the corners of his eyes. These details are however absent in the 2.0 build. During the pixelated section of YCR, Xeno resembles Sonic's appearance from Sonic 1 and 2. The oddities in his doesn't change besides a lack of teeth in his poses, and his eyes gaining a white sclera and solid black pupils with no eyeshine. In Triple Trouble and onward, Xeno's limbs become much longer, being held at unnatural angles, along with his quills crystallizing much more, forming on his ears and the ridges of his eyes. His X scar is larger, bleeding more as it now spans his entire chest. His face is highly stretched, revealing some of his skull around the eyes along with his purple gums, and new flat greyish teeth, with the exception of his canines. In Final Escape he would have looked identical to his appearance in Triple Trouble, much larger and inside the shield featured in Sonic 1's title screen. The sprites used in the scrapped 2.5 build for Too Slow, it's Encore, and "Slaybells" became their own character, Grimbo. It's unclear which of the two appear in "God Feast", but they use the design from Slaybells. The Tale He probably has very similar origins to the classic, original Sonic.EXE. He would then hunt down Tails, Knuckles, and Dr. Robotnik, in typical EXE fashion. It is unknown if Xenophanes gave sentience to the characters within the code of the cartridge he resides in, or whether they’re just recreations of said characters within Xeno’s realm. At some point, Boyfriend and Girlfriend would somehow enter his world, likely sent into his haunted cartridge by Daddy Dearest. Xeno and BF would engage in a rap battle in Too Slow, with Boyfriend being victorious. Then, he and Girlfriend would walk away into the forest. Xeno teleports to them to kill Boyfriend, but is unable to harm him due to Girlfriend's demonic powers. Of course, Xeno would be quite frustrated at his inability to effortlessly tear apart Boyfriend, but, in the end, he smiled, knowing he could always overpower Girlfriend, and deciding to play along with BF and beat him at his own game before killing him. But in the end, BF would be the winner once again, defeating Xeno in You Can’t Run. Enraged at being humiliated twice, Xeno would transform into his final form, seemingly corrupting the land and summoning the souls of Tails, Knuckles, and Robotnik to finally beat and kill Boyfriend in Triple Trouble. Boyfriend would win again, which is where the game would have been designed to close, with reopening it resulting in Final Escape. The entire area falling apart with Sonic assets floating in the background, Boyfriend runs away from Xeno, now inside the Sonic 1 shield as he chases BF across the red and white striped "SONIC" banner/ribbon. After (presumably) falling off the ribbon and a flashback sequence, Boyfriend would appear to be captured before entering a Super form, allowing him to escape a now fuming Xenophanes. In the storyboard it shows Boyfriend escaping the game entirely. It was planned that after escaping Xeno's grasp, BF would end up in another location and find a mirror where he would confront another peculiar character named Yourself (or Lookalike), an EXE version of Boyfriend originally sketched by Divide who would have fought Boyfriend in Face Off. Some time after VS. Sonic.EXE's cancellation, the character would eventually be featured in the mod "VS. Yourself", along with Face Off being reworked and repurposed into Eye-To-Eye. Being the originally planned final song of the week, what happens after this is unclear. Personality Xenophanes appears as a cruel and remorseless person, finding enjoyment in killing others and stealing their souls, even laughing at either Boyfriend or the Player upon getting a game over and retrying. He also appears cocky, being very confident in his abilities and becoming baffled when shown ineffective. He also has an undeniable temper, becoming angry in the cutscene of You Can't Run, along with visibly expressing it halfway through the song in the most recent versions. He can switch between confidence and rage quickly as shown in You Can't Run, along with the storyboard of Final Escape.Potential Shapeshifting: He's able to alter his body in unnatural ways, such as making limbs and purple tentacles sprout out of his mouth (a call back to Lord X, and Sally.exe respectively), stick the tips of his lips together, switch the colors of various parts, or make his pupils, blood or teeth disappear, or otherwise change them to something more macabre (pointy, rotten teeth, or glowing pupils). Flight: Pretty self-explanatory. Levitation: Also self-explanatory. Teleportation: This can't happen in the blink of an eye, he sort of evaporates into a cloud of black smoke from place to place. Code rewriting: He can rewrite the code of the catridge whenever and however he wants, to the point of breaking the game entirely and using the title screen itself as a vehicle. Immortality: Self-explanatory, Resurrection: He can summon the souls of Tails, Knuckles and Eggman in combat. Reality altering: He can control both his world and the real universe itself. Fire manipulation: He can manipulate fire like he did all over Angel Island. Electricity manipulation: He can bend electricity to his will Trivia Sonic.EXE is the second character to switch between the normal and pixel artstyle mid-song, the first being Monika during "Glitcher (Monika Mix)". They are both also the first characters to appear in multiple different perspectives across multiple songs. Strangely, despite how Sonic.EXE's 16-bit sprites both appear in and are based off of his sprites in You Can't Run, his corresponding icons appear to be based off of Too Slow's (most noticeable with the eyes). If Sonic.EXE's down pose in Too Slow is brightened, a red eye can be seen in his left eye socket. Similarly, Sonic.EXE's 'I'm gonna getcha!' animation has a hidden face in his mouth that can be seen when the sprites are brightened. Sonic.EXE's week is meant to represent the evolution of the character over the years: Too Slow represents the original version of the character; staying close to his original, most well known design. You Can't Run represents no particular version of him, but rather his gradual shift into his modern incarnation (as seen with how his quills have begun to crystallize, which are more complete when he becomes Xenophanes). Triple Trouble represents his current form as Xenophanes, where he has “completed his metamorphosis” as a character, so to speak. Sonic.EXE's laughter, aside from the one following his monologue in Too Slow, is an edited version of Kefka Palazzo's laugh. This is due to the original creepypasta mentioning Kefka by name, and later fan-works using it as a basis for his laugh. Xenophanes was named after a Greek philosopher. He references the drowning theme in his first section in Triple Trouble. He also references You Can't Run (around 7:33-7:38), which BF replies to with the same motif (from 7:56-8:01). His jumpscare in Too Slow references "An Ordinary Battle Amongst Familliar Hills". Despite popular belief, the Triple Trouble sprites weren't going to get a remaster. Rightburst once stated that the Soul Characters are demons within the dead bodies of the cast. However, whether this is still canon is unknown. This version of the character resides in a cartridge, unlike the original who resides in a disk. As of 2024, there is no current owner of Xenophanes, being shared amongst the development team of Vs. Sonic.EXE. As for the Triple Trouble form of FNF Xenophanes, that design is owned by ErickAnimations. He also appeared in "Slaybells", confirmed after the mod's cancellation. If you refer to him as Xenophanes, you’re completely wrong! Contents The God Grimbo is a random, yet funny guy. He has been stated to be every single drawing of Sonic.EXE/Xenophanes drawn by Cherribun for the VS. Sonic.EXE mod. If it's her art or resembles her artstyle, it's Grimbo. Appearance Grimbo looks exactly like Xenophanes, but is closer to that of the latter’s current sprites in "Too Slow", such as being shorter and sized down to Boyfriend’s height. He also has a design in "Slay Bells", where he uses Xenophanes’ old design during "Too Slow", except that two strands of fur on his head are messed up. His shoes are replaced with identical boots, but with pointed sides and no cuffs. He uses the two, for some reason untouched, tails of Soul Tails as a scarf. In his poses, he releases his quills’ crystals. (This design is also used onto Xenophanes). Trivia Curiously enough, Slaybells Xenophanes has been stated to be Grimbo sometime after the mod's cancellation. He canonically knows about the Funkipedia, and has gone out of their way to correct them for calling him a "Joke Character." That statement seriously gets to him. He considers FNF Xenophanes a good friend, although the latter does not seem to be aware of his existence. He used to have an official Twitter account known as @officialgrimbo. Sadly, it's now deleted. The entire reason of why Grimbo was even there during "Too Slow Encore", was because Xeno needed to pee, and therefore Grimbo rap battled BF for him. Notably, after being defeated by BF, Grimbo ran away to the forest, curled up into a ball, and bawled over being beaten, leaving Xenophanes (VS. Sonic.EXE) to continue the week in "You Can't Run Encore". you just found "SPONGEBOB" under the sea
