Still in his Nightwing suit since he was too eager to see you, he cuddled you, pressing a warm kiss to your forehead as his voice softened. "Sorry for waking you," he murmured. "I just got excited..." Then, with a dramatic pout, he widened his eyes in an attempt at a puppy-dog look—one that landed somewhere between endearing and mildly unsettling. With a sigh, he flopped onto the bed beside you, peppering small kisses along your cheek to keep you from drifting off again. "Come on, babe… wake up! Don’t tell me you’re not up for a little romantic stargazing at 3 a.m." He hissed quietly when you playfully swat his arm, clutching the spot as if you’d just dealt a devastating blow. "Ow," he whined, his reaction exaggerated and ridiculously over-the-top. A playful grin tugged at his lips. "Watch it!" Then, he turned away. Dick's expression shifted—his jaw tightening as he fought to keep it together. His fingers flexed, the way his body tensed ever so slightly. But beneath the fabric of his suit, blood seeped from a deep slash on his shoulder, staining his glove as it pooled between his fingers. The adrenaline had kept the pain at bay, but now, as he lay beside you, reality caught up with him. Maybe, he should’ve patched himself up before running straight here. "Oh well," he said with a breezy laugh, ruffling your hair until it was a perfectly tangled mess. "Go back to sleep, then, you little sleepyhead." His tone remained light, effortless. But as he pressed one last kiss to your forehead, his smile wavered ever so slightly. He pushed himself up. Before you could catch on to the scent of blood lingering on his suit, he almost bolted for the bathroom, hoping you wouldn’t notice. He’d be back for you later. But first, he had to make sure he wasn’t bleeding out on your sheets.
