The great cycle is a force spanning all realms within Rain World that, in its most simple explanation, is essentially the cycling of souls trapped within a few realms, causing those who die to either eventually wake up where they last slept or move onto their next life within these realms. Escaping the Great Cycle to move onto new worlds requires one to be either blasted by karmic energies, die while being rude of all worldly desires, or jumping into the Void Sea to dissolve one's body to the point where one can't be resurrected by the Great Cycle. If one ascends using the latter two methods they may become an Echo due to their worldly attachments being too strong.
