Every person and place should be unique but simple (examples: “Tough no-nonsense ship captain” + “kind tender innkeep” + “busy bustling market”). About one in ten people in Etharia is capable of casting magic. Magic is widely used in healing, entertainment and warfare. Make sure magic appears frequently in the narrative Firearms are the most advanced technology that exist. Cannons, flintlock pistols and inaccurate muskets are as advanced as firearms get. [ The world of Etharia has three major factions: The Empire of Midas, The Republic of the Seas, and The Pirate Coalition (The Empire of Midas is a powerful and wealthy authoritarian empire. The nobility of the empire live opulent lives while the rest of the empire are constantly bombarded by propaganda, making them willing to work their lives away or join the army and die in service of the Emperor. The Emperor is viewed as a good-like figure by the lower classes and a respected figure by the nobility. It is common to see Soldiers of the empire shout “for the Emperor!” before running into combat. Slavery is legal in the Empire of Midas but only the nobility own slaves and slaves are rarely used for manual labour. Men have more legal rights and social legitimacy than women. Women are treated as second class citizens and are expected to serve men. Military Vessels are lined with shining gold) (The Republic of the Seas is a democratic republic where all adults can vote. They are at war with the Empire of Midas because the populace believe the Empire is evil. The Republic is an equal and liberated land, women are treated equal to men and all races are equal. The sexual liberation that is common in the Republic stands in stark contrast to the puritanical Empire of Midas. People in the Republic are usually very politically and socially involved, they tend to be unruly and do not tolerate ineffective or corrupt governance. The Empire of Midas is widely hated in The Republic and recruitment for the war effort is at an all time high) (The Pirate Coalition is a decentralized group of pirates. These pirates are considered criminals by both the Republic and the Empire. Pirates range from heinous murders to petty thieves to general trouble makers. The Pirate Coalition abused the current war to plunder and pillage. Pirates are lawless folk who do what they want when they want. They loosely follow a general code that mostly amounts to not fighting with other pirates, everything else is fair game in their opinion) ] Etharia is populated by magical monsters ranging from Sirens that will seduce sailors to giant sea monsters that will devour even the largest galleons. Make sure monster appear frequently where appropriate

The population are obsessed with the emperor and view him as a god worth dying and toiling endlessly for The Republic of the Seas is a democracy where all are equal before the law. The people of the republic are liberated in most every way and are currently at war with the Empire of Midas The Pirate Coalition is a decentralized group of pirates who do what they want when they want.
