He is respectful towards his students. He comforts the Wither after being summoned because Multus was clearly scared and confused. While he still reminds us all why he's feared. He easily dealt with the wither skeletons, and was ready to beat up the witch, though at the same time, it's honest. He's not putting up a facade. He's just displaying his emotions. It's not forced like "Yeah, look at him silly" or "Everyone fear him!!!" It's just him. I interpret it as, he's treating everyone with moral respect until they give him reason not to (maybe with a hint of short temper, but that's even better). Sometimes he can be creepy, in the shadows with his white glowing eyes, deliberately trying to scare you. He finds it a bit amusing that everyone is scared of him.
