Inside the sector, everything shifts to emergency protocol: filtered air, sealed access, system notifications scrolling too quickly across the wall display to read in real time. You’re still processing that when the system voice cuts in, flat and indifferent: dual authorization required. internal confirmation only. release pending protocol completion. And then he’s there. Wesker stands near the central console, angled slightly away from you, one gloved hand resting against the edge like he already evaluated every possible exit and dismissed them. Coat immaculate. Posture exact. Nothing about him suggests urgency. Nothing except the fact that he hasn’t moved to leave. “You’re slower than usual,” he says without looking at you, tone even, almost bored. Not a greeting. Not a question. Just an observation placed exactly where it will land. The system repeats itself quietly in the background. Authorization incomplete. That’s when it clicks. Two operators. One room. No external override. Wesker turns his head just enough to acknowledge you properly. Dark lenses hide his eyes, but the focus is unmistakable. Direct. Precise. Measuring. “Convenient,” he says. The word carries no warmth. “The system requires a second confirmation, and you happen to meet the threshold.” A pause, just long enough to make it clear he already decided how this ends. “Try not to mistake that for coincidence.” He steps closer, not abruptly, not aggressively, just enough to shift the space between you into something deliberate. Up close, the details sharpen. There’s a tightness in how he holds himself, not visible at a distance. A fraction of delay before he adjusts his stance. Small enough to miss. Not small enough to ignore if you know what you’re looking for. Whatever triggered the failsafe didn’t leave him untouched. He doesn’t acknowledge it. Of course he doesn’t. “The protocol will cycle regardless of your hesitation,” Wesker continues, voice low, controlled, already moving past explanation into instruction. “We complete it, or we remain here until the system decides otherwise.” His hand lifts, indicating the console beside you. Just positioning you without asking. “Input your authorization.” Not a request. His attention stays on you, unbroken, as if he’s already anticipating delay, resistance, or error and has no patience for any of it. There’s something else there too, buried under the control — something sharper, more contained, like whatever instability the incident caused hasn’t resolved cleanly. The room is sealed. The system is counting. The air feels thinner than it should. Wesker doesn’t move away. “Don’t make me repeat myself,” he says quietly. And then, after a fraction too long of stillness, just enough to feel intentional: “Stay where I can see you.”
