However, her brown hair always has short blunt bangs and kept in two braided tails. She also has raceless white skin. Wadanohara's appearance in the beginning of the game. Wadanohara's first outfit is a white sailor uniform accented with navy blue stripes. Her knee-high socks are navy blue with a white stripe near the top. A navy blue bow rests on the back of her outfit. Black Mary Janes are her shoes of choice. Her hair is tied up with two navy blue ribbons. A small sailor cap with a ribbon rests on her head. She also wears bloomers underneath her dresses as they are much easier to deal with when living in the sea. [1] She is also stated to be flat-chested. [2] Wadanohara's appearance for the majority of the game as well as the design of her official character portrait. Wadanohara has no breasts and is "an eternal chopping board (flat)." [3] Wadanohara's second outfit, given to her by Tatsumiya, is also a sailor uniform. The shirt is dark blue with white accents. Underneath, she wears a white turtleneck. The skirt is also dark blue with a white stripe on the hem. Her blue boots are decorated with a thin white stripe. On her back is a large red, white, and blue bow. Her hair is tied with two ribbons, matching the large bow on her back. Her hat is a large blue witch hat with a similar striped ribbon accenting it, along with a silver anchor. In Wadanohara's first and second outfit, her eyes are gray. Deep-Sea Prisoner has said it is due to Wadanohara being an innocent person, unstained by any color. It was none other than Samekichi who affirmed this in her. Personality Wadanohara is shown to be very kind and warm to everyone around her. She has a deep love for the Blue Sea and her friends who inhabit it. As such, she strives to solve any predicament disrupting the peace of her home and those she loves. When her friends are confronted with a problem or chore, Wadanohara assists and helps them in any way she can. She for instance gathered starfruits for Nekoyama after he passed out due to overworking and brought Irena apples from the surface as she could not get them herself. Although, as a result of being relied on to resolve conflict and desiring to help those in need, Wadanohara is burdened with more responsibility than she can handle. She tends to not speak of her own worries and has a habit of hiding her feelings when bothered or distressed, showing she cares more about the happiness of others and would rather not have anyone worry about her. She never gets angry and does not take anyone's mistreatment of her to heart, even rationalizing it at times. When Samekichi repeatedly fights and threatens Wadanohara in an attempt to make her leave the Blue Sea, she does not get mad but rather believes there must be a reason he acts the way he does towards her. She also gave Syakesan the benefit of the doubt when he told her he was the ambassador of the Sea of Death. This trait of believing people is pursued to mistreat others rather than choosing to do so by themselves seems to stem from Wadanohara's naivety. Wadanohara is known to be quite honest with others as well as taking jokes and sarcasm as they are. In the future, Wadanohara still maintains the same cheerful mentality she had when she was younger, though displays a calmer and more composed demeanor. As stated in the manga, Wadanohara's favorite color is white and the color of the sea. Her favorite food is "candy and anything delicious." Wadanohara has never met her parents because they were both absent prior to her birth. In place of her parents, Tatsumiya raised Wadanohara, teaching the young witch all the spells she had been taught by Meikai. As stated in the manga, Wadanohara's favorite color is white and the color of the sea. Wadanohara loves her father dearly, even if the only instance of them meeting is in a dream in which Meikai grants Wadanohara his staff, which was the only time they ever truly interacted with one another. A portrait of him is hung in the foyer of their house. While Meikai disappeared before he could personally meet his daughter, he loved her dearly in his final moments of life. After his death, he became the Cast Pearl above the Sea King's palace, posthumously protecting the kingdom and in a way, his daughter. In one of the endings, following the ideals of her father, Wadanohara sacrifices her life to protect the Blue Sea Kingdom. As the Sea of Death is unleashed, Wadanohara finds herself in a strange dim area. She walks around before finding a tall white tower with Meikai standing next to. He offers to lend her his power and tells her not to give up. He apologizes that this is all he can do, but he is happy to finally talk to her. He also tells her to remain who she is and to believe in herself and those precious to her. Meikai prays for her happiness and wishes her well. During the conversation, Wadanohara realizes who he, calling out, "Fa...." Unnamed Mother Wadanohara has never met her mother. She had hatched from an egg after her mother had already passed away. One night on Star Isle, Samekichi gifted Wadanohara an ocarina, a present she greatly cherished. When he then confessed his feelings for her, it at first seemed as though she reciprocated his feelings, though he soon realized that she misinterpreted what he said. Instead of reiterating himself, he chose to confess to her another time. When Syakesan casted a curse on Wadanohara’s heart which erased her memories of the time he stole the Sacred Sword and assaulted her, Samekichi was forced to not mention the incident, or otherwise the curse would devour Wadanohara. When she later visited the Witch World with her familiars to cure her amnesia and came back to the Blue Sea after hearing a war is approaching, Samekichi repeatedly attempted to make Wadanohara leave the Blue Sea, while Wadanohara was unsure why. She later regains memory of everything that happened once Syakesan was revealed to be the ambassador of the Sea of Death. Familiars Memoca Memoca is Wadanohara's familiar and friend. Memoca typically speaks in an informal and casual manner to Wadanohara, using the nicknames "Wadda" or "Wadachi" to refer to her. Memoca was Wadanohara's first familiar after Samekichi disappeared. [19] [13] She is also the second oldest familiar of Wadanohara. [20] Because of this, she is trusted by Wadanohara who will often tell Memoca of her old memories. [20] Memoca has a sense of responsibility as Wadanohara's familiar, and when she saw Wadanohara crying over Samekichi, she knew she had to take the initiative to protect her. [20] She is also the one that introduced Fukami to Wadanohara. [21] Wadanohara trusts Memoca, and they have been friends for a long time. [13] Dolpi Dolpi is Wadanohara's youngest familiar and friend. She is usually protected or comforted by Wadanohara in a maternal manner. Wadanohara usually comforts her when she cries and scolds Memoca for teasing her. Along with Memoca and Fukami, Dolpi was one of the three familiars accompanying Wadanohara to the Witch World and returned with her to the Blue Sea. Dolpi was the second familiar to join Wadanohara after Memoca. [13] Fukami Fukami is Wadanohara’s familiar and unrequited love interest. He was the last to join her after Memoca and Dolpi. [13] Upon first impression, Fukami initially thought, "Is this kid really the Sea Witch? Why do I have to protect this little brat?" Now he thinks she is adorable. [8] Fukami is deeply devoted to Wadanohara and does not hesitate to inflict violence on those who try to hurt or threaten her. Wadanohara sometimes appears troubled and confused by the things Fukami says to her but still treats and regards him as her friend and familiar. Jealous of Wadanohara's love for Samekichi, Fukami tends to question her relationship with him - reminding her that he is a traitor and therefore cannot be trusted. When Wadanohara and her familiars were in the Witch World, Fukami purposely left Wadanohara’s ocarina behind, a present given to her by Samekichi. Whenever he is near, Fukami will insult and try to injure Samekichi, which frightens him. Abilities Skillset Witchcraft - Being a witch, Wadanohara is able to perform magic. Flight - Being a witch, she has learnt the ability to fly on a broomstick. Piano-playing - She is talented at playing the piano. Ocarina-playing - She owns her own ocarina, gifted to her by Samekichi on which she likes to play. Combat - She uses her staff and anchor broom as a weapon to fight with. Natural Abilities Nigh-Absolute Immortality - Being a witch, Wadanohara cannot die from natural causes such as aging or disease. [28] Trivia Wadanohara's name is an alternate reading of 大海原 (おおうなばら, oounabara), meaning "ocean." [29] The first kanji of Wadanohara's name ("大") resembles an anchor. Anchors also appear in both her design and attacks. In the game's logo, the first character of "Oounabara" (Wadanohara) is further stylized specifically like one. The very first text dialogue spoken by someone upon starting the game is Wadanohara's. She said those words in the sequences of the True Ending upon returning to her boat. The dialogue goes as follows: Wadanoharamen shop A ramen shop sign featuring Wadanohara, allowed with special permission from Deep-Sea Prisoner[30] From 28 June to 3 August, 2017, Deep-Sea Prisoner hosted a popularity poll that let people vote on their three most favorite characters of hers. When the results came out on 7 September, 2017, Wadanohara was ranked 4th. [31] According to Deep-Sea Prisoner, an artwork she drew featuring Wadanohara ended up on a foreign ramen shop sign. The owner of the shop had found the image on a free resources website, but ended up contacting Deep-Sea Prisoner when they found out she was the artist. She ended up granting them special permission to use the artwork, as she found the situation hilarious. [30] For Halloween, Wadanohara would dress as Alice in Wonderland. [32] Samekichi's Wiki: Samekichi has somewhat long messy grayish-blue hair. His dorsal fin sticks out the top of his hair and is slightly more ragged looking than Syakesan's. His tail is also bluish-gray and has some scars across it. He wears a black fur trimmed jacket with an oval containing a white anchor and red streak across it on the upper arm along with two small scratch marks under it. Underneath the jacket is a light gray shirt and anchor necklace. Near the cuffs of his jacket appear to be small fins. His pants are dark gray. He also wears a black belt, black gloves, and black shoes. Towards the true ending of the game, Samekichi's appearance slightly changed. His hair color turned into more of a dark blue-green color, and his eye color changed into navy blue. The reason for this change to a darker shade was due to him becoming tinted with the darkness after having pursued Syakesan. [1] There is still a scar mark on his right eye remaining. His dorsal fin turned a little bit raggier, and there are more scars on his tail. His uniform changed too; he now wears a darker jacket with black fur trim and a black shirt underneath. The red streak from the anchor patch on his jacket was also removed. Even though they are not visible, Samekichi has ears. [2] He also has blue nails. [3] Rough and blunt at first, Samekichi comes off as a harsh individual seeming as if he bears a strong hatred for everything in existence. However, this was just a ruse, as he simply wanted to maximize the chance for Wadanohara's safety in the game. He speaks very gruffly and uses the personal pronoun "ore" when referring to himself. [4] His voice is more low-key between that of a young man and a boy. [5] Samekichi is honest in expressing his feelings to Wadanohara since she is really honest and takes sarcasm and jokes as they come; he does not want her to misunderstand him. Samekichi pulling off Tarako as they give him an "Octo-kiss." He deeply cares for Wadanohara, and it is revealed in the events of the second Normal Ending of Wadanohara and the Great Blue Sea he values her more than anything else in the sea. In the ending The Blue Sea Witch, it is suggested he commits suicide in his grief over the sea witch's death. In his character bio, it also mentions he would do anything to protect her. Samekichi is said to represent altruistic love. [7] He grows irritated when people use Wadanohara and him for errands but doesn't inherently dislike them, even going as far as asking Irena what kind of present he should get for Wadanohara, and inviting Tarako to listen to Wadanohara play piano at times. He also forgave Wadanohara's other familiars for treating him poorly when he was trying to get Wadanohara out of the Blue Sea without admitting his reasons. Samekichi gets easily flustered and angry. His "tsundere" nature is said to be inherited from his father. [8] He will sometimes look at books, but not really grasp the content because he is a bit dumb according to Deep-Sea Prisoner. [3] During a livestream, Deep-Sea Prisoner responded to a question asking what types of drunk Samekichi and Wadanohara were. Samekichi is said to become super clingy - only to Wadanohara - when he is drunk; the next morning, he would have little memory of this and become white in the face upon remembering. Despite being twins, they have different voices and speech mannerisms. [5] They used to spend time together when they were younger and were both miserable when their mother passed away. After Syakesan left home, Samekichi promised Namiho to bring him back no matter what. However, when greeted by Syakesan into the Blue Sea after becoming Wadanohara's familiar, Samekichi could not bring himself to say anything to him. Both developed romantic feelings for Wadanohara over time, though only Samekichi was receiving her continuous attention and affection. Syakesan was aware of this and became extremely jealous, asking, "Is he that good for you?" when Wadanohara called for Samekichi's help during her assault. He further states he should have killed his brother when given the chance and that taking pity on him was a mistake. A spell was later cast on Wadanohara to lock away her memories of her assault; this forced Samekichi from mentioning any of this to her lest it break her. In Funamushi Private Deep-Sea Academy, Syakesan and Samekichi get along well and live together. [18] Samekichi is teased by his brother when Wadanohara and him are texting and grinning at each other. [18] Namikaze Namikaze is the mother of both Samekichi and Syakesan. In both a bonus scene of the Reboot and manga, Samekichi is shown to be upset over the death of his mother. The details of their relationship are currently unknown. Old Old is Samekichi's father, although they do not know about their familial relationship. His father and him bear a strong resemblance to each other. The two have both been accused of being traitors to the Sea Kingdom. Tatsumiya makes this connection in the manga when thinking of Old and Samekichi's striking resemblance and seemingly same fate. Samekichi's "tsundere" nature is said to be inherited from his father. [8] Namiho Namiho is Samekichi's aunt. She took care of him and Syakesan when Namikaze passed away. When Syakesan left, Samekichi promised his aunt he would bring Syakesan back home. After some time, Samekichi left Namiho as well. Wadanohara and the Great Blue Sea Cast Fukami Fukami is Samekichi's fellow familiar. Both of them share romantic feelings for Wadanohara, with a one-sided rivalry on Fukami's part. Due to Fukami's jealousy and Samekichi's supposed betrayal of Wadanohara, Samekichi was often brutalized by Fukami whenever the octopus could get his tentacles on him. Though their relationship was rocky at first, due to the mutually romantic feelings they share for Wadanohara, Fukami later accepted Wadanohara's romantic affections were solely for Samekichi. He chose to support her romantic feelings for Samekichi rather than take advantage of her vulnerability. Memoca Memoca is Samekichi's fellow familiar. Memoca was shown to dislike him heavily in the first half of the story due to a misunderstanding and him being rude to Wadanohara. In the Reboot, it is revealed Memoca was Wadanohara's first familiar soon after Samekichi had disappeared. Once Wadanohara told Memoca the story of how Samekichi and her met, Memoca thought within herself she would not forgive Samekichi for making Wadanohara cry, and if they ever met, she "wouldn't hold back." However, all has been reconciled once the truth was revealed Samekichi was not, in fact, a traitor. Memoca was the first to apologize to Samekichi when she learned she had misjudged him. [20] Dolpi Dolpi is Samekichi's fellow familiar. For the first half of the game, Dolpi was scared of Samekichi. Despite this, if the two were to ever arm wrestle, Dolpi would win. [3] Nekoyama Nekoyama is one of Samekichi's friends. He helped Samekichi deliver Wadanohara's ocarina to her. Irena Irena and Samekichi are acquaintances. Samekichi finds Irena somewhat annoying due to her frequently asking Wadanohara to complete errands for her; he once exclaimed Irena should grow some legs and do the errands herself. Irena in turn seems to like teasing Samekichi. She once teased him about his jealousy for Wadanohara, assuring him no one was going to take her from him, flustering him. Despite this, they seem to get fairly well. Samekichi once asked Irena what kind of present would make a girl happy. Irena knew he was referring to Wadanohara, so after teasing him for being a "lady-killer" she suggested an ocarina. Samekichi took this advice and gifted Wadanohara an ocarina, which she deeply cherishes to this day. In the manga, when Irena notices the ocarina in Wadanohara's hands while Samekichi is away, she briefly monologues about him, wondering where he was and what he is doing when he is supposed to be the at Wadanohara's side. In a bonus comic in the manga, Irena and Tarako, who she was holding in her arms, are shown grinning mischievously at Samekichi's consult to them over how close Wadanohara gets to him. According to Irena, Wadanohara only did this to him. Samekichi then hides himself in a hole of embarrassment. Idate Samekichi is a one-time target of Idate's bullying. Idate targeted him on account of Samekichi being a shark, a favorite creature that Idate likes to bully. Tarako Tarako is one of Samekichi's friends. Tarako often mistakes his name on purpose, which Samekichi is annoyed by. They tease him over his love for Wadanohara multiple times. Samekichi's first kiss was with Tarako because of this, after they mocked him about not having a first kiss with her yet. In a bonus room video, Tarako also "octokisses" Samekichi as a proof of friendship, which Samekichi found disgusting and begged them to stop. Despite this, the two are on decent terms with each other. Other Characters Met Met and Samekichi are acquaintances. In the Wadanohara and the Great Blue Sea bonus room interview, Samekichi intruded Met's studio when she was interviewing Wadanohara. Met subsequently possessed Samekichi, which he did not appreciate. As such they do not seem to be on good terms. Trivia "Samekichi" is a nickname Wadanohara gave him when he became her familiar. His true name is Aonami (青波), meaning "blue wave." He had a slight blush visible underneath his eyes and almost always smiled. Upon revealing his true motives, the white in his eyes turned black and blood began to drip from both eyes. He also grew four arm-like limbs from below his fins. In his humanoid form, Sal appeared remarkably similar to Samekichi. His white hair was slightly long and messy and his dorsal fin protruded from the top of his head. He wore a white suit accented with light gray. Six buttons were visible along the front of his suit. His shirt was dark gray, and his tie was black. He also wore white pants, black shoes, and black gloves. Syakesan would wear tight underwear in a smaller size in order to accentuate his shape. His hair was soft due to his mother's genetics and prone to getting messy when he slept; it would sometimes look similar to Samekichi's when he woke up. Syakesan and Samekichi before corruption When Samekichi joined the Blue Sea after becoming Wadanohara's familiar, Syakesan greeted him in a way seeming as though he never met him before, disturbing Samekichi in a disheartened manner. During the time Samekichi and Wadanohara were together, Syakesan developed distorted romantic feelings for her, ridden with jealousy. He tricked her into entering the Sea of Death to assault her. When caught by Samekichi during the act, he put a deep curse into Wadanohara's heart preventing Samekichi from bringing up the incident. Upon revealing his true identity to Wadanohara and her familiars towards the end of the game, Syakesan became more deranged, poking at Wadanohara's memory to remember his assault on her and attempting to persuade Fukami to join the Sea of Death. In the end, Syakesan confessed his love for Wadanohara was not a lie despite all the lies he told until then. Upon stabbing Wadanohara with the Sacred Sword and running off, Samekichi followed Syakesan to retrieve the sword and put an end to what he had done. Samekichi was able to have one final talk with Syakesan before leaving him to pass away. Abilities Skillset: Swimming - Syakesan was good at long-distance swimming.
