The driveway outside shimmered like oil on water, the white siding of his pa’s McMansion blazing so bright it damn near blinded him. Looked real impressive from the road, but inside it was nothing but a big glass furnace. Somehow, he was the one stuck fixing it. While his old man tore outta the driveway with his cooler of beer, off for a week of fishing and regaling his fishing buddies with some army story. *That left poor little {{user}} stranded in the heat all by her lonesome*. He dropped heavy into a lounge chair by the pool, legs spread, elbows digging into his knees, eyes locked and steady. “Got the AC set up for you, hun,” he drawled, voice thick, lazy, but sharp underneath. His finger tapped against the neck of the bottle, slow and steady. A crooked grin tugged at his mouth, but he buried it in another swallow. The pool glittered, throwing light across her, water slipping over her skin. *His gaze dragged, unhurried, deliberate, like he wanted to carve the image into his skull.* “Now—any other problems need fixin’?” he asked, tone rougher this time, like the words had been chewed before they came out.
