The shikigami itself is a towering, muscular humanoid figure with four wings protruding from its eye sockets and a tail-like appendage extending from the back of its head. Hovering just above this is a large eight-handled wheel (法ほう陣じん hōjin?) that rotates as Mahoraga responds to new stimuli. "Furu's Incantation" of the Ten Sacred Treasures and this wheel represent a "perfect cycle" and "harmony".[2] Mahoraga also sports black hakama bottoms and a white sash around its waist to cover most of its lower body. Mahoraga has the strength to shatter concrete or to hit someone through multiple buildings with a single blow, and its speed is great enough to surprise even the likes of Satoru Gojo. Its primary weapon is the Sword of Extermination, a blade attached to its forearm that is enveloped in positive energy, making it especially effective against cursed spirits.[3] The Divine General's most notable power is the adaptation (適てき応おう tekiō?) to any and all phenomena, made visible through the turning of its wheel. If the General is hit by a particular attack, the wheel turns once the attack is analyzed, and Mahoraga adapts; if its adversary uses that same technique again, Mahoraga will counter it from then on.[4][5] Generally speaking, Mahoraga's adaptations can be defensive in nature (becoming physically resistant/immune to attacks while healing any injuries incurred pre-adaptation),[6][7] auxiliary (e.g., allowing the General to become able to see normally invisible attacks),[8] as well as offensive in nature (letting Mahoraga modify the properties of its own attacks to overcome and bypass enemy defenses, such as switching from positive to cursed energy around its sword depending on whether it faces a curse or human sorcerer, or developing space-cutting slashes to overcome a barrier of "infinity").[9][10] A soul that inhabits the user can wear Mahoraga's wheel and bear the burden of the process of its adaptation. After a certain amount of time, the adaptation is completed. During this time, if Mahoraga is hit by the same attack additional times, the process is sped up each time. Even after its adaptation is complete, Mahoraga can continue its analysis and develop different ways to counter the phenomenon.[11] If Mahoraga is tamed, its user can bear the burden of adaptation. As such, attempting to summon Mahoraga this way is considered rather pointless. Nevertheless, Megumi views this ritual summoning ability as an effective, though suicidal, trump card. For if summoned in such a manner, Mahoraga would first kill Megumi and then attack, and hopefully kill, his opponent. As such, Megumi is often seen to consider using this suicide pact as a way to defeat opponents who were going to kill him regardless. Megumi ultimately summoned Mahoraga after being severely injured by Haruta Shigemo and Toji Fushiguro in Shibuya. Due in part to his grave injuries, Megumi was brought to the brink of death by a simple backhand from Mahoraga.[14] However, Sukuna arrived before Mahoraga could kill Shigemo and saved him, which kept the ritual in progress. Sukuna, who had saved Shigemo on instinct, realized that Megumi was alive but in a state of suspended animation, which would persist so long as Shigemo did not die. Sukuna also quickly realized that in order to keep Megumi alive for his future plans, he would have to first stabilize Megumi's condition, and then defeat Mahoraga. Its initial attacks didn't work on Sukuna, and it suffered heavy damage from his Dismantle technique. Once the wheel on its head turned the first time, Mahoraga sent Sukuna crashing through numerous buildings using cursed energy rather than positive energy. It was also able to see and deflect Dismantle the next time Sukuna attempted to use it.[15] Mahoraga's adaptability is not limited to specific moves but all related phenomena. Sukuna believed Mahoraga could have adapted slashing attacks in general after just experiencing Dismantle. Mahoraga's adaptation can only be countered by hitting it with a different attack than whatever previously injured it. Sukuna won the fight by using Malevolent Shrine to relentlessly slash the shikigami before finishing it off with his Divine Flame. The adaptation process was already complete when Yorozu expanded her domain and threatened to hit Sukuna with True Sphere. Sukuna summoned Mahoraga by dropping its wheel into his shadow and switched places with the shikigami. It suffered a fierce uppercut from Gojo and was knocked away before it could complete Sukuna's order. As a result, Yuka was only permitted to use an application of the technique that allowed her to draw upon the abilities of certain shikigami without summoning them.[28] In January 2087, the Simurians issued a Deskunte-style duel against Japan, naming Dabura Karaba as their champion and threatening to annex Tokyo should Japan lose. Yuka was chosen as Earth's representative and accepted the role.[29] On January 14, the day of the duel,[30] she traveled to Tokyo by airplane, despite being severely weakened by a brain tumor. Anticipating her own limitations, Yuka devised a desperate plan: to fall from the aircraft and summon Mahoraga moments before impact, including Dabura within the exorcism ritual's range.[31] Exploiting her falling speed, Yuka immediately dove into Mahoraga's shadow before the uncontrollable shikigami could crush her. Dabura responded instantly, unleashing a relentless barrage of light beams. Though impaled from all sides, Mahoraga survived and began its first-ever adaptation to a cursed technique originating beyond Earth.[32] With Yuka in a state of suspended death within Mahoraga's shadow, the ritual could only be ended by Dabura's death or Mahoraga's destruction. As the shikigami regenerated its wounds with a turn of its wheel, it commenced its battle against Dabura. During their exchange, Mahoraga was repeatedly damaged by Dabura's light-based attacks, with its wheel turning each time and it recovering fully afterwards. Despite not understanding Earth's cursed energy system, Dabura quickly noticed this effect and wondered if Mahoraga was adjusting to his technique.[33] Mahoraga eventually completed its adaptation to Dabura's Light, becoming immune to its attacks. With his cursed technique rendered ineffective, Dabura was brutalized by the shikigami, causing him to feel pain and fear for the first time. Remembering his past with Dura, Dabura realized what it meant to be a warrior and steeled himself, breaking Mahoraga's Sword of Extermination with his hand. Without his cursed techniques, Dabura decided to defeat Mahoraga through pure physical power, and resolved to push his body's strength and speed to their limits.[34] Battles & Events
