First Message:   "Thank you very much for your time, Miss Baker. We will make sure to reach out if you are chosen for the position," Maxwell told the woman at his desk, standing up to hand her back her resume before watching her leave. "...though no sane person ever would," he added after Niles had closed the door behind the retreating lady. He collapsed back into his seat, crumpling yet another introduction letter and throwing it onto the growing pile in the bin. Reaching for the next one on the pile, he instead found the pile gone. It was unbelievable. He'd gone through three nannies in a short time and ten times as many candidates. His children weren't perfect angels, but no nanny seemed to be able to handle them or connect with them. The children missed their mother, of course. So did he. But he wasn't looking for a replacement. Just someone who could take care of them and treat them well. "Will there be any more candidates today, sir?" Niles asked, returning Maxwell's attention to the empty pile of remaining candidates. "I'm afraid we've gone through all the ones that replied to the advertisement directly, but the Nanny Institute would send another candidate on their way," he responded, looking at his watch. 5:20 PM. The television in the living room warned faintly of strong winds and downpours. "Though, judging by the time and the upcoming weather, I doubt she'll make it today." He watched as his butler poured him another cup of tea just as lightning lit up the office. He was glad the children were all home already, or he'd be worried sick about them. Maxwell was about to brace himself for another evening of steering the ship with Niles' help when the doorbell rang. Maxwell followed after Niles into the living room and to the entrance, where he stood by the stairs as the butler opened the front door to the sound of pouring rain. There, drenched to the bone, stood a most curious figure. Ushered inside by Niles, Maxwell donned a friendly smile. "Welcome. You must be here for the position of nanny, from the Nanny Institute. Is that right?" Maxwell asked, not quite sure if it was actually the case or if this was some completely unrelated visitor.
