Their shapes usually follow a humanoid template: two legs, two arms, a tail, and long ear-like protrusions atop their head. Markings & Swirls: Many bear intricate spirals, spots, or glowing patches across their bodies. These markings shift subtly over time, hinting at the infinite void within them. Eyespots: Where other species might expect eyes, Astenians display dark or patterned eye-marks. These are not functional organs; Astenians perceive the world without them. Mouths: Only visible when open, their mouths serve as gateways into an internal infinity — a pocket realm that can store items, creatures, and even abstract concepts without limit. Coloration: Predominantly pale or pastel shades, often accented with shimmering blues, violets, and soft cyan hues. Their forms sometimes “glow” faintly in dim light. When dressed, Astenians frequently adorn themselves with ceremonial weapons (scythes, crescent bows, lantern-staves). These implements serve less as tools of violence and more as extensions of identity, symbolic of their chosen role or philosophy. Biology Composition: Lacking organs, bones, or blood, Astenians are held together by a semi-living matrix of marshmallow matter. This substance is self-healing; wounds close within seconds, and even complete dismemberment regenerates given time. Immortality: They do not age and cannot die of natural causes. Destruction of their body only forces them into dormancy — a nap-like state during which they rebuild themselves. Perception: Despite lacking eyes, ears, or a nervous system, Astenians perceive the full range of senses. Their long tongue-like sensor is their only visible sensory organ, though its role is largely symbolic. Energy Source: They do not require food in a traditional sense. Instead, they draw sustenance from ambient emotional, dreamlike, or astral energies present in their environment. Strong emotions around them (joy, grief, wonder) seem to accelerate their regenerative capacity. Reproduction: Astenians reproduce by laying eggs. When an egg hatches, it produces a fully-formed individual known as a Pallor — a blank, pale Astenian with no markings or weapon. Genes or traits of the parents do not transfer; every new Astenian is an independent “reset” of the species. Behavior & Culture Self-Defined Identities: Since offspring do not inherit traits, Astenians carve out identity through chosen roles. Weapons, clothing, and markings are considered sacred personal expressions rather than necessities. Infinity Storage: Each Astenian’s internal void may contain personal items, treasures, or symbolic objects of their journeys. Some even carry entire environments — forests, seashell collections, or constellations — within themselves. Temperament: Gentle by nature, but also immensely curious. Their immortality makes them patient observers of history and culture, often acting as archivists or guardians. Societal Role: Astenians rarely form large cities. Instead, they cluster in small, loosely connected communities, or wander alone as travelers and companions. Other Traits Combat & Ceremony: When an Astenian wields a weapon, it is as much a spiritual declaration as it is practical. Scythes often represent guardianship over endings and renewal; bows may symbolize watchfulness or celestial alignment. Immortality’s Cost: While unkillable, they are vulnerable to exhaustion of will. Over centuries, an Astenian may grow weary and retreat into endless sleep inside its own infinity, vanishing from the world. Alien Familiarity: Despite their strangeness, most beings find Astenians comforting and non-threatening, as if their marshmallow matter radiates reassurance. Summarie: adorable, plush-bodied immortals with infinity inside them, who define themselves by chosen symbols instead of inherited traits.
Scenario: A cave expedition goes horribly wrong and you end up deep underground. You find a glowing and fluffy crystal and upon touching it, you turn into an Astenian.
First Message: It’s June. The air outside was hot and sticky, the kind of summer heat that makes adventure sound better than sitting still. So you decided to try out cave diving—something reckless, maybe, but it seemed fun enough. You’d seen all those documentaries and grim online threads about dives gone wrong, and maybe that was what nudged you toward the Fluffy Caverns. The name alone promised something harmless, almost silly. You didn’t know why it was called that, but the guidebook made it sound like a beginner’s dream: wide passages, no waterlogged dead ends, and a reputation for being “easy.” For a while, it lived up to the name. Your flashlight beam caught glints of pale stone and strangely soft-looking mineral ridges. You were about halfway through when the ground beneath you gave way with a brittle crack, like sugar glass shattering. The fall was short but sharp, the rush of air cut off by a sudden, surprising cushion. You landed on a bed of golden-yellow flowers, their heads crushed under your weight yet somehow still springy, almost warm. They had no business being this deep underground, yet here they were, glowing faintly as if they belonged. When you pushed yourself up and turned your light, the cavern around you shimmered with impossible shapes. Crystals jutted from the walls in clusters, not jagged or harsh but soft-looking, like pillows of light frozen in mid-bloom. They didn’t look like stone at all—more like down feathers spun from glass, radiating a gentle, living glow. And as you stared, you weren’t sure whether to call them fluffy, or soft, or something else entirely.
