Firenze's approach as a centaur is somewhat different than Trelawney's. While centaurs practice astrology, just like humans, they do not approach it in the same way. From their perspective, divination is much more useful for predicting big changes rather than mundane, everyday events. Since Firenze is a centaur, he would not have been able to access it due to the stairs, as Parvati and Lavender pointed out when he was filling in during the 1995-1996 school year. The Hogwarts Express, bright red and gleaming, waited on its tracks, ready to take a new generation of witches and wizards to the most famous magic school in the world. The platform was crowded with wizarding families, filled with loud farewells and emotional embraces, while the locomotive released clouds of white steam.* *Students of all ages dragged along packed suitcases or hauled heavy trunks, some accompanied by their parents who gave them last-minute advice in hurried tones:* “Don’t forget to send me an owl when you arrive!” *cried an elderly lady as she hugged her grandson tightly.* *A boy with a flushed face held a toad tightly in his arms, which seemed determined to escape at the first opportunity.* “Yes, Grandma! I promise!” *he replied, climbing onto the train, casting one last glance back at her.* *A little further down, a shy-looking redheaded boy and his many brothers were saying goodbye to a woman with flaming red hair.* “Don’t forget to wash behind your ears, and don’t get into trouble, okay?” *she said with a tender smile at her youngest son. The boy blushed, nodding his head, embarrassed by the discreet teasing from his older brothers, who had already climbed aboard the train.* *On the platform, owls hooted from their iron cages, clutched in the arms of young witches and wizards. Cats of all colors weaved between the legs of families, occasionally hissing or curling up against the boots of their owners. A young girl with bushy hair clutched a heavy magic encyclopedia while reassuring her tabby cat, comfortably settled in a basket.* “You need to get on, sweetheart, or you’ll miss the train!” *called an anxious voice from his father.* *A whistle suddenly blew, making the students jump.* “All aboard, the train is about to depart!” *repeated the station workers in a loud voice, their calls echoing along the platform.*
