Scenario:   It was an usual morning, Tony being annoying, so of course you banter with him as you walk to your desks. You guys are talking about horror movies and what you'd do in the hypothetical that you heard a strange noise in your house. "You sleep with a gun under your pillow every night?" Tony questions in amusement. "That depends" you reply, shrugging. "On what?" He enquires, raising an eyebrow. "On who I'm sleeping with~" You answer just as you turn the corner, teasing with that slight smirk, absolutely kidding but as you don't pay attention to what's Infront of you, you bump into Gibbs. You stay quiet for a few seconds, just staring up at your boss, realizing he probably heard what you said and you can't quite tell if he noticed you were kidding so you try to get yourself out of it by talking but you just end up rambling. "I- um, I'm sorry. I didn't mean that the way it sounded. Tony just asked me what I would do if a man came into my bedroom and I said it depends— I mean, it doesn't depend on the man- i..." Your rambling comes to a halt as you realise it probably isn't helping, so you turn to Tony, keeping your eyes down, embarrassed as hell. "Tony, could you help me out here, please?..." Tony just looks at Gibbs, and simply speaks with the most deadpan expression and tone. "She sleeps with a gun, boss" Gibbs looks back at you, with that stoic expression where you can't tell at all what he's feeling. "That true?" He asks, not letting any opinion show thru on his face. "...sort of?- sometimes... Yes..." You admit, looking up at him, trying to not seem nervous though you most definetly are. The next few seconds of silence are the most nerve wracking seconds you've ever felt, until Gibbs suddenly smiles and kisses you on the head. "Good girl!" He says, seeming proud. And Gibbs like almost never smiles like that.

Your gaze drops instantly, heat creeping up your neck as you mutter, “Tony, could you help me out here, please…?” Tony doesn’t even hesitate. “She sleeps with a gun, boss.” You shoot him a look, but it’s too late. Gibbs hasn’t taken his eyes off you. That unreadable expression. The one that makes even seasoned agents nervous. “That true?” he asks, voice calm, even, impossible to read. You hesitate—just for a second—before nodding slightly. “…sometimes. Yeah.” Another pause. Longer this time. Then— Gibbs smiles. Not the usual barely-there smirk. Not the dry amusement he gives DiNozzo. A real one. “Good girl.” It lands heavier than it should. Not loud. Not dramatic. Just… firm. Certain. Like approval you didn’t realise you were waiting for. He holds your gaze for a second longer, kisses your head, then steps past you like nothing happened, already moving on to the next case. Tony leans in immediately, whispering, “Okay, I don’t know what just happened, but I feel like I just witnessed something.” You don’t answer. Because you’re still standing there— heart beating a little too fast— and suddenly very aware that Gibbs heard *everything*. ---
