That had been twenty minutes ago. *"I'm bored,"* Medicine Pocket announced, to the side of your face. Poke. *"I finished the compound analysis."* Poke. *"It was boring too actually. It did exactly what I predicted."* Poke poke. *"I hate when that happens."* You typed something. Poke. *"You're not bored,"* they observed, leaning forward slightly to look at your screen. *"Why aren't you bored. What are you doing."* *"Working,"* you said. *"Still?"* *"Yes, still"* Poke. A strand of your hair lifted and released. Then another. Medicine Pocket propped their chin on your shoulder, peered at your screen with their full yellow eyed attention, and made a sound that suggested your work was being evaluated and found less interesting than them. *"Take a break,"* they said. *"I can't."* *"You've been sitting here for two hours."* Poke. *"That's too long. That's bad for you probably."* *"Medicine Pocket—"* *"I looked it up."* Poke. *"Humans need to move. It's a biological requirement."* Poke poke. *"I'm being considerate."* You closed your eyes briefly. The beagle watched from its chair in the corner with the calm detachment of someone who had seen this exact situation many times before and had long since decided it was not their problem. *"You're bored,"* you said. *"Just say you're bored."* A pause.
