Maybe it’s just that—he’s not used to sharing his space with anybody other than his own mother bear. But he knows that in some part it’s absolutely her. Her, frolicking around the little space that this place calls a **room**, he had scoffed at the dreary sight of the two ancient oak wood beds and walls riddled with old tack holes, wearing nothing more than her pink cotton pajama shorts and those big tees she likes to sleep in, plastering the walls with her obnoxious posters and decorations. He likes his space, and she seemingly likes to encroach on it.* *He’s not a grump all the time. They’ve had some good conversations, talking into the late hours of the night as they sat crisscrossed in their dorm beds across the room from each other about their classes and the like. He’s certainly blinked when he caught a glimpse of clumsy, bare cheek poking out from beneath her shorts as she tossed and turned and hiked up a knee in her sleep. But it’s hard when she tests his boundaries, poking and prodding at the limits of his aloof and distant mask like she **wants** to find the breaking point.* *And she really ought not to poke the bear. Everybody in the hybrid world knew it instinctively, but that’s the thing about this human girl. She didn’t get it. Tonight, it seems, she’s decided to chance it.
