WINTER TO SNOWFALL, THE DANGEROUS GIFT Winter is a male IceWing dragonet prince and the main protagonist of Winter Turning. Formerly a student at Jade Mountain Academy as a member of the Jade Winglet, he currently resides in Sanctuary and is a member of the Talons of Peace, where he studies human behavior alongside Daffodil. He was formerly a member of the First Circle and had romantic feelings for Moonwatcher. Description Winter is shiny,[1] silvery, and immaculate,[2] with smooth, untouched,[3] glittering,[4] pale blue scales the color of a frozen lake. His scales have also been described to appear silver,[5] icy blue, and snow-[6]white,[4] like overlapping shards of ice[7] that become darker along his spine and the edges of his wings.[8] He has dark[9] or pale[10] eyes that are as blue as arctic oceans,[11] silver-blue wings,[12] and razor-sharp silver claws.[13] He wears a small wolfskin pouch tied to one of his ankles[14] that contains a small skyfire stone.[15] He is smaller in size than Pyrite,[16] but broader than Qibli.[17] He is handsome[18] and dashing, with a soulfully tragic face[19] and a gruff voice.[20] He has a moon-pale shape,[21] pointed elbows,[22] and flashing silver scales.[23] Moonwatcher describes him to be frighteningly beautiful, with horns like deadly icicles and sharp spikes at the end of his whip-thin tail.[24] Personality When Winter was a young dragonet, he was very cautious.[25] According to Hailstorm, he was very amusing and a lot more fun to tease than their sister Icicle; Hailstorm wished that Winter could relax.[25] When Hailstorm was captured by the SkyWings, Winter blamed himself heavily and considered his decision to escape as cowardly.[26] He once described his feelings as simultaneously furious, trapped, frustrated, grateful, safe, alone, on fire, wanting the wrong things, hating himself, and confused.[27] He has been described as hostile,[28] strong,[29] loyal,[30] cold, standoffish,[31] determined,[32] courageous,[33] dignified,[34] fierce,[35] curious,[36] sarcastic, arrogant,[37] stubborn,[38] tortured, heroic,[18] irritable,[39] sharp-minded, haughty,[40] harsh,[41] and grumpy.[42] Nearly everything he says sounds sarcastic, but he is sometimes quite sincere,[43] and he becomes open-minded and reasonable later in his development;[2] he would like to learn more about what other tribes can do,[44] despite not being a very good listener.[45] He speaks with commanding authority,[35] and sometimes jokes in an awkward manner.[46] He believes in the system of monarchy[47] and has a brooding, aristocratic way about him.[48] When he is upset, he often acts explosively angry,[49] self-righteous,[50] and harsh[51] before putting on an icy mask that hides all of his emotions.[52] He hates himself more than anyone else.[53] ( I Imagine Icewings with an Irish Accent.) Along with being an animus dragon and a SeaWing prince, he is currently attending Jade Mountain Academy as a member of the Jade Winglet. He has romantic feelings for Kinkajou. Description Turtle has unblemished,[3] jewel-toned,[4] dark emerald-green scales with lighter green underscales[5] and hints of gold in his dark green eyes.[6] He is a little plump, with an extra curve to his snout and upper arms,[5] and has large talons.[7] He wears a waterproof pouch around his neck[8] and a golden armband studded with sparkling[8] skyfire rocks[5] — originally six, but now reduced to three. His bioluminescent scales emit a pale green light,[9] and he has a low, rumbly voice.[10] He has a round,[11] anxious face,[9] and he heavily resembles Fathom.[12] He has spirals and shapes like webbed talon prints along his wings that are luminescent and oddly beautiful.[13] Personality Turtle is shrewd,[14] nervous,[15] outwardly serene,[16] anxious, wry,[17] curious,[18] friendly,[19] thoughtful,[20] quiet, peculiar, peaceful, fidgety,[21] and does not seem to have any fire to him at all.[10] He is also insecure,[22] once referring to himself as an idiot.[23] Turtle is fearful of everything,[24] and he has called himself boring,[25] uninteresting,[26] unremarkable,[27] and forgettable;[25] descriptions that multiple other dragons have agreed with.[25][28] Turtle lacks proper communication skills,[29] is often sleepy and mumbly,[30] and he tends to overshare.[31] He is willing to try his best to be helpful,[32] and he has acted bravely in order to protect his friends.[33] He is very self-conscious about his magic, and he often worries about hurting or even killing other dragons.[34][35][36] He was extremely cautious when concealing his powers and took great care to ensure they would not end up being discovered.[37][38][39] However, Turtle's soul is almost entirely good,[40] and after the events of Darkness of Dragons, he became less fearful of his animus magic.[41] According to Winter, it is easy to forget that Turtle is a prince.[9] He almost never behaves like royalty, as though he does not want to be noticed at all.[9] Qibli described him as "easygoing", "used to being invisible",[42], and a worrying expert.[43] According to the SandWing, he is "terrible" at using his animus magic, and it was hard for him to imagine Turtle coming up with a useful spell on his own.[44] Peril described him as puddle-like.[10][45] Other dragons do not typically have much faith in his ability to protect others.[46] MoonWatcher: Moonwatcher is small,[1] with cool,[2] smooth, shiny[3] purplish-black scales that are imbued with hints of dark blue and green.[4] She has one glittering silver scale on the outside corner of each of her dark green eyes,[5] like a teardrop about to fall.[6] These scales are bigger and shinier than Fatespeaker's. She has powerful muscles,[2] black wings[1] and frequently has small furrows crossing her forehead, as though she has a perpetual headache.[7] Secretkeeper describes her scales as "gleaming as though they'd been polished" and thought that she looked healthier than the NightWings who were raised on the volcano.[6] Personality Moonwatcher is nervous[8] and anxious,[9] but simultaneously kind, firm,[10] brave,[11] determined,[12] loyal, and friendly. She is easily flustered,[13] sometimes reluctant,[14] and she thinks that there are a lot of things wrong with her.[15] During the events of Moon Rising, Moonwatcher often found herself stammering when trying to talk,[16] and her mindreading and foresight made it difficult for her to communicate with others.[17] She suffers from social anxiety and is easily frightened by loud, overwhelming, and hectic situations.[18] She often tried to avoid being around others by reading scrolls to calm herself down.[citation needed] Moonwatcher was worried about what others would think of her, and she did not open up to her peers very easily; however, she still looked for the good in dragons.[19] Moonwatcher eventually learned to be more open about her powers and chose to use them for the good of other dragons instead of hiding them,[20] although, she still struggles to tell others about her mind reading. According to Luna, she is kind of "spacey" at weird moments.[21] She has a sort of distracted air to her, as though "invisible dragons whisper in her ears while everyone else is talking".[22] Moon is generally well-liked by others,[23] and according to Qibli, she is fascinating.[24] Peril: Description Peril has unusually bright,[1] incandescent,[2] glowing,[3] shimmering,[4] copper-colored,[5] fiery,[6] metallic-orange scales[7] that emit smoke and heat, giving her the appearance of burning from the inside.[1] Smoke also seems to be coming from her mouth.[8] She has a long, pointed tail,[9] with veins of gold running through her glimmering copper wings,[8] as well as strange, sinister,[1] sly,[10] startling,[8] eerie,[11] sharp,[12] flame-blue[13] and black eyes,[14] as though someone had bundled up the sky and immersed it in fire until it burned from the inside.[1] Her eyes have also been described to be like two small blue flames blazing through the smoke.[8] She has sharp white teeth that are not yet stained or blunted and horns that are full size.[15] Her scales emit a blistering,[11] burning heat that feels like standing too close to an erupting volcano,[16] and her face conveys quite a few very intense emotions.[17] Personality As a dragonet, Peril was curious and a little delighted when Scarlet gave her an unhatched SkyWing egg, as if no one had ever given her a toy before.[1] During her time in the Sky Kingdom, she was a brutal killer[18] and did not seem to care that other dragons feared and detested her, striding around as if she knew everyone would clear out of her way.[3] Under Scarlet's rule, she did not feel bad about killing dragons,[19] as she just viewed it as a routine,[20] and she seemed untroubled by how much death she had caused,[21] however, she felt remorse for thinking she was responsible for Sky's death.[22] Due to Scarlet's lies and manipulation, she believed being a monster was her true nature and had accepted her one "true self".[23] Despite this belief of hers, she often tries to make herself as small as possible[16] and is quiet upon meeting other unfamiliar dragons;[18] she seemed surprised when Clay offered to talk to her.[18] She has a kind of awkwardness and sadness to her,[24] and Moonwatcher described Peril's mind as almost impossible to read; it is all fire, as if she is burning from the inside out. Moonwatcher believed that Peril is not a happy dragon, but was unsure if she is evil.[25] She is not much of a planner,[19] and was astonished to discover that most dragons do not plan how to kill others if needed upon first meeting them.[26] Additionally, she is not skilled at remembering faces, as she always forgets to concentrate on storing their features because she is sizing them up as a potential combatant instead.[27] She does not like following anyone,[28] and loves the idea of family.[29] She is also fierce,[30] sensible,[31] unrepentant,[32] strange,[33] matter-of-fact,[34] proud, bold, loyal,[35] loving, sarcastic, curious,[5] prone to rage,[36] stubborn,[37][38] and hopeful.[39] She is neither clever nor sideways, and she often tackles problems by flying at them directly.[40] She has an astoundingly fierce lack of stealth, either by always making the most noise, picking fights or accidentally blowing something up.[41] She has a strong personality, which is often met with dislike from other dragons;[42] however, she often attempts to be polite,[43] and she feels devastated when her actions negatively affect those she loves.[44] She also felt monstrous upon accidentally injuring Winter, and felt a familiar vast emptiness opening up inside her, with freezing winds shrieking through the darkness that she was to blame.[45] She believes that being ordinary sounds wonderful,[2] and was delighted when Soar's enchantment took place and she was able to touch things normally.[46] She also believes that being alone is awful.[47] She laughed and considered herself to be free, with nothing to worry about anymore, now that her firescales were gone.[48] Even under the enchantment, however, Peril was still aware that she did not kill dragons anymore,[49] and doubted what the right thing to do was.[50] After the War of SandWing Succession, Peril often second-guesses if she has the right to be anywhere, after everything she has done, and she is considered the most dangerous dragon in Pyrrhia.[51] She felt contempt for her hopeful former self, whom she considered idiotic[52] because she had expected her life to change after saving Clay from a dragonbite viper;[53] on the contrary, she has developed ragged holes on the inside that have been caused by other dragons fearing and hating her.[54] She is largely unaware of how friends are supposed to act towards one another, as Clay has to frequently remind her that companions should not threaten one another.[55] In addition, she is unsure of how to reassure others;[56] she has an uncanny ability to say whatever is the opposite of comforting.[33] She is not great at reading the emotions of another dragon.[57] Flying is especially important to Peril because it is the only thing she can enjoy in such a joyful, uncomplicated way - she does not have to constantly make herself small and watch her perimeter to avoid setting anything on fire whilst in flight.[58] She felt thrilled and grinned at the opportunity to kill dragons who were attacking her, regarding the action as fun,[59] but became genuinely offended and glared at Avalanche when she suggested that Peril might be worse than Scarlet;[60] additionally, Queen Ruby stated that Peril had claimed to be peaceful.[61] She also became fully relieved upon learning her accidental explosion had not seriously injured anyone within Possibility.[62] She can hurt dragons with her words,[63] and stated that she does not care if a dragon wants to think horrible thoughts about her.[64] She hates worrying about things,[65] and does not ever have mild emotions.[62] Dragons usually do not let her help with things[66] or tell her secrets before telling anyone else,[40] and Peril once wondered that if her disappearance would really be such a great loss to the world, as she doubted anyone would miss her.[67] Though she does not feel bad about killing other dragons, she believes that hurting a dragonet like Cliff is brutal and unnecessary.[68] Soar was astonished at how strong she was, and at how quickly she overcame his enchantment.[69] After pledging her loyalty to Ruby and overcoming Soar's enchantment, Peril vowed to stay exactly the way she was, with no magic to help her. She began to realize that she does not want shortcuts to become better, for Clay or for anyone else, and wants to accept the dragon she was, and only then working towards becoming the dragon she wants to be.[70] She does feel just as muddled as to what to do next, and still sometimes has vengeful thoughts,[71] but she feels more and more like herself the farther away she goes from Soar's enchantment.[72] Her mind is now a lot less inferno-like,[73] and for the first time, Peril was able to make a decision with a clear, strong bolt of That was the right thing to do upon burning Darkstalker's scroll;[74] she also knew that even if Clay was never aware of her decision, she would still know that she did the right thing, and that was good enough for her.[75] Umber: Umber has brown scales[1] and pale amber eyes. He is the smallest of his sibling group, with a scar across the top of his snout.[2] Personality Umber is a caring, observant, and loyal dragon, and is very kind towards his loved ones.[3][4] He experiences a warm, constant sense of relief related to the end of the war.[1] He is incredibly loyal to and fond of his siblings, and thinks very highly of them;[4] he wants to protect them and keep them safe, regardless of the cost.[5] He was sympathetic towards Moonwatcher when she was interrogated about the truth of her NightWing abilities.[6] Carnelian: Carnelian had battle-scarred,[1] scarlet scales,[2] massive scarlet-red wings,[3] and deep orange irises.[4] Personality Carnelian preferred combat and was disinterested in education and making friends, and saw the school as a punishment rather than a reward.[2] She did not like other dragons, specifically those from other tribes and rarely interacted with them positively, with Umber being a maybe exception due to their tribes being allied in the war.[5] She would look down on others by judging them and evaluating their worth based on their battle prowess.[6][7] Carnelian was violent and aggressive, as she got into a fight on her first day of school.[8][3] Her dreams were often "belligerent and blood-soaked"[9] and seemed to have involved war and enemy soldiers.[10][11] She often wished that Queen Ruby would let her drop out of Jade Mountain Academy and send her back to the SkyWing army,[12][13] since she wanted to become a general and protect the palace. Carnelian was incredibly loyal to Ruby and stated she would kill Scarlet herself in order to protect the throne.[14] Despite her harsh exterior, deep down Carnelian was truly insecure. She worried everyone else would think that she was dumb and that her chance at meeting her life goals would be ruined.[15] There was a timeline where she murdered Kinkajou because she talked too much.[16]
