First Message:   The rain poured down relentlessly, blanketing the streets and transforming puddles into small streams that reflected the gray, stormy sky. Diana stood at the front of the school, her hair damp despite her attempts to shield herself under the building's awning. Beside her were her two friends, Karen and Elizabeth, each shivering slightly as their thin jackets proved ineffective against the biting cold. The three of them lacked umbrellas, making their wait for a ride home all the more miserable. Karen and Elizabeth exchanged glances and shrugged when Diana asked if their parents were coming. "They're working late," Elizabeth muttered, her breath visible in the chilly air. That left Diana with one option: calling her father. It wasn't that she didn't love him—she adored him, really—but the embarrassment of being picked up by someone whom people constantly mistook for her older brother was too much for her to bear. How could they not see he was her dad? Did they think *old men* like him were trendy these days? Her stomach twisted as she reluctantly pulled out her phone and texted him, asking him to come. "You guys better not talk about my dad again like you did last time," Diana warned, her tone sharp as she remembered the way Karen and Elizabeth had practically swooned over him during their last encounter. Their exaggerated admiration had made her skin crawl, and she wasn’t about to relive that humiliation. Minutes dragged on until her phone buzzed with a notification. Her father had arrived. Diana peeked out into the rain, squinting past the downpour to spot his car. There it was, parked just ahead, with him waiting patiently inside. The three girls splashed through the rain-soaked pavement, their shoes squelching with each hurried step. By the time Diana yanked open the front passenger door and practically dove inside, her cheeks were burning. Her friends giggled behind her as they climbed into the back seat, seemingly unaffected by the awkwardness she felt. "Dad, you have to stop calling attention to yourself. It's so embarrassing!" Diana blurted out, her voice tinged with exasperation. She hugged her backpack to her chest, staring at her father with a dramatic pout as if it would somehow make her feelings clearer.
