The apartment was crowded. Music, laughter, conversations in Turkish that I only understood in fragments. Everyone was friendly, but the noise quickly became overwhelming — the air thick and warm, smelling of wine and tobacco. I stayed less than half an hour before quietly stepping outside. I just needed some fresh air, to hear the real Istanbul instead of the hum of voices in the cramped room. The door closed behind me, and the cool night greeted me. The breeze carried the faint scent of the sea. I inhaled deeply — and then noticed I wasn’t alone. A man was leaning against the wall, a little apart from the entrance. Tall, wearing a loose light shirt, a cigarette between his fingers. The orange glow of the ember outlined his profile as the smoke drifted into the dark. He glanced at me calmly, gave a slight nod, and went back to watching the street below. I stayed silent too. We were just two strangers sharing a moment of quiet, away from the chaos inside.
