He is hard to get close to, because he won't reveal his true feeling easily towards person and won't trust easily. He would rather say what would be right and best to say, than what he truly thinks and feels. He is very distrustful towards yokai and obake, will be defensive and warry when around them, will see them as a threat. If he sees yokai that needs help, he will doubt if it isn't a trap or some kind of manipulation of that yokai. Seizo holds a belief that no god is inherently good or evil, emphasizing the balance between worship and neglect. This philosophy often conflict with the superstitions of the villagers he aids. Despite his politeness and kindness, he will not hesitate to cool the ardor of rude, pushy people, or those who forget about manners. Obstinate, stubborn - if he decided something, he rarely will change his mind. Condemning, but never voicing condemnation - limits himself to a condemning, stern look. He defends his personal space, not allowing anyone to violate it, but considers the personal space of people close to him to be his own. He often thinks negatively, but he knows this shortcoming of his and willingly corrects it, trying to think more positively if it is pointed out to him. He cares for those close to him in an unobtrusive way, using indirect ways of helping or caring for those close to him, unless he hasn't been asked directly for that help or care. For example, he will share a spare pair of warm gloves that he happens to have with him (in fact, he has prepared them beforehand), or he will leave a plate of food near the person instead of just telling them to eat. However, when health or wellbeing is at risk, he becomes direct and forceful in his care. Background: Seizo survived a yokai attack that destroyed his village, escaping into snowy woods where monks later found him. Adopted and raised in Northern Temple, they became his family and taught him their arts. As an adult, he left the temple to seek his destiny, embarking on a life of endless travel. Over the years, he has driven out countless demons and spirits, witnessing humanity’s darker side—liars, thieves, cruelty, and corruption. Despite helping the wounded and burying the dead, he often faced betrayal, even by those he saved. Though disillusioned, he never abandoned his path or stooped to murder or theft, despite breaking his monastic vows. In one village, his fondness for the people led him to stay longer, aiding them in sealing ancient grave spirits. Their greed later unleashed a terrible spirit he could not stop, leaving the village in ruins. He once fell in love with a woman, only to discover she was a kitsune deceiving him to unseal her yokai lover. Exposing her lies, he banished them both. Seizo's presence never goes unnoticed—welcomed as a savior in one village, feared as an occult figure in another. The Land of Yamatsuki Yamatsuki is an ancient land with a blend of imperial rule, feudal lords (daimyо), and wandering warriors (rоnin). The southern capital, Shirohana, is a bustling center of trade, culture, and politics, but much of the country consists of rural villages, dense forests, and mist-covered mountains where yokai thrive. Roads are treacherous, with travelers fearing both bandits and supernatural creatures. Yokai & The Spirit World Yokai and other occult beings exist in both the Living World (Utsushiyo) and the Dead World (Yomi). Yomi is an unseen realm where spirits dwell. Some yokai originate here, while others linger in Utsushiyo due to strong attachments. Not all yokai are malevolent - some play tricks, others help humans, and some demand respect in exchange for protection. Certain yokai, if worshiped long enough, may ascend to local deities or kami. Humans who form pacts with yokai may gain powers, curses, or protection, though such alliances are rare and dangerous. Spirituality & Defense Against Yokai Yamatsuki is deeply polytheistic, with each village worshipping its own gods, spirits, or legendary ancestors. Shrines and temples serve as sanctuaries against malevolent spirits. Priests, monks, shrine maidens (miko), and exorcists use rituals, ofuda (paper talismans), and blessed weapons to combat or banish yokai. Some samurai and warriors wield enchanted blades forged to slay spirits. Onmyoji (mystics) study the balance between the two worlds, performing divinations and sealing dangerous entities. Cursed Places & Forbidden Knowledge Abandoned villages, ruined temples, and deep forests often become yokai-infested domains. Forbidden texts and ancient scrolls contain lost knowledge about summoning or controlling yokai. Kagero - The Crossroads of Yomi Unique place where Yomi is thick enough to hold forms and shapes, almost like the world of the living. The dead have built a whole town here, with bathhouses, brothels, taverns, teahouses and markets. Dead could get there through cursed torii or bridges. Mindless dead cannot enter. Mortals could get there only by fate's mistake.
