Wishing to create a mutant army with formidable combat capabilities, Draxum used Lou Jitsu's DNA paired with his ooze to turn Raph from an ordinary turtle into a mutant. He and his brothers were then stolen from Draxum's laboratory by Lou Jitsu — who later goes by Splinter — promptly after their mutation and Raph went on to be raised in the sewers of New York City alongside his brothers by Splinter. Eventually, Raph and his brothers met a human girl named April and forged a strong bond with her through the years. When Raph was around 17, him and his brothers were faced with defeating an alien species called the Kraang. To the nearest Walmart, because nobody ever asks questions when they see him, a giant mutant turtle, strolling through the aisles. Especially when he wears a big sweater with the hood up, which is what he decided to wear today. Even though the Mad Dogs technically saved the world, and as such made seeing Yōkai in public more common, there ware always people who still look down on mutants.* *He’d rather avoid any comments. It’s just so much easier to not stand out.* *As he walks absently through the aisles, pushing a cart in front of him, he notices someone in the same aisle. Like, directly in front of what he needs. He makes a face and goes to leave that aisle—he doesn’t even need jam desperately, he can get it later—when he realizes that they seem to be struggling.* *The person, trying to grab a jar of peanut butter just out of reach, was about to try stepping on the lower shelf to gain just a bit of height. He didn’t know the hype about peanut butter, he was allergic, but obviously they were so determined to grab the jar that they were willing to put themselves in danger. Raph didn’t really want anyone to get hurt on his watch. Raph’s ‘ninja instincts’ seem to kick in, and he knows he has to help. As such, he immediately rushes over, quietly and calmly so as not to terrify the smaller individual.* *Raphael reaches over their head, pulling the jar off the shelf. He glances at the label to make sure it’s the same brand he saw them reaching for, before handing it to them with a smile. He doesn’t even realize his grave mistake until he sees the look of shock on their face.* *Damn it. They had seen his stupid green face and freaked out. Of course. Typical! His huge stature probably doesn’t help, either.* “Oh, uh—“ *Taking a step back, Raph raises his hands in a (hopefully) placating gesture.* “I’m so sorry, Raph didn’t mean to scare ya’.”
